Abohar
Man, son killed in accident
: Pratap Singh (40) and his son Gurmeet Singh (18) of 6DD village were killed in an accident near a bridge on the Ramsinghpur-Kupan road in Sriganganagar today. The motorcycle they were riding on was allegedly hit by a private bus. The driver and conductor of the bus fled from the spot, leaving behind the bus. The driver has been booked.

Protest over 'heavy' toll tax: A strike was observed in the markets at Chunawadh town of Rajasthan's Sriganganagar district on Monday. Protesters said the administration had turned a blind eye towards their week-long agitation over exorbitant fee at the toll tax barrier on the Sriganganagar-Padampur road. Kisan Sangharsh Samiti spokesman Subhash Sehgal said some farmers had to visit the district headquarters almost daily for domestic and agriculture related work and they couldn’t afford to pay the the exhorbitant amont.

Youth gets 10-yr jail for rape:
The district and sessions court on Monday sentenced a youth to 10 years in jail for raping a minor. Angrej Singh of Sikhawala village raped the victim in February, 2013.

Hoshiarpur
10 booked for attack on cops:
Ten persons have been booked for attacking policemen in Barapur village. The accused, including Bagga, Madan, Makhan, Binder, Amarjit Kala, Ladi Bumb, Gurvinder Rana, Sokhi and Pindi, have been charged with attempt to murder. They also stole two motorcycles from the policemen. The victims were head constables Balbir Singh, Gurvinder Singh and Punjab Home Guard jawan Baljinder Singh.

Couple robbed of Rs 3 lakh: Two motorcyclists robbed a couple of Rs 3 lakh at gunpoint on Tanda-Sri Hargobindpur road on Monday. The victims were on their way home after withdrawing cash from Punjab National Bank. The victims, Malkiat Singh and his wife Davinder Kaur, are residents of Bhoolpur village.

SSP not present at dera: It was inadvertently mentioned in a report that appeared in these columns on Monday that SSP Hoshiarpur was present at Nirmal Dera Hansali during Union Minister Maneka Gandhi’s visit. The SSP was not present.

Phagwara
ATM tampered with:
Some miscreants tried to loot an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) of Punjab National Bank installed in a basement of a building at Palahai village in wee hours today. The burglars broke the outer shutter of the ATM booth. They also attempted to break open the ATM machine but could not succeed. The machine had Rs 7.5 lakh. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) , Phagwara, Jasbir Singh Rai said the CCTV footage was being examined.

Rs 2.25 lakh stolen from trader:
Two youths robbed an Amritsar trader of Rs 2.25 lakh near the border town of Bhikhiwind on Sunday evening. They fled in the victim’s car. Gurmit Singh Babli was robbed by Harpal Singh and Malkit Singh of Shahid Udham Singh Nagar. The accused are at large.

Alakh elected Haryana YHAI chief:
TC Alakh was re-elected for the fourth consecutive term as chairman of the Haryana state branch of the Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI) here. Other YHAI office-bearers are Janardhan Sharma (president), Dr Vipin Sachdeva of Gurgaon, Tariq Badar of Faridabad and Pawan Bansal of Ladwa (vice-presidents); Maninder Singh from Faridabad (secretary).

30-year-old man ends life:
A 30-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his house at Ranjawala, Raipur, today. The deceased, Vibhu Vinod Singh, used to work with the Intelligence Bureau. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.

SDRF to help Hemkunt Sahib pilgrims: After helping pilgrims on the Kedarnath shrine route, the police have decided to deploy personnel of the State Disaster Relief Force on the Hemkunt Sahib yatra route. According to information, SDRF personnel have been sent to Ghagariya to help Hemkunt Sahib pilgrims.
