Delhi police gets Rs 4,630 cr allocation in interim budget
New Delhi, February 17 The new fiscal commences on April 1, 2014. The budget hike is primarily on the salary and expenses account. The focus of the budget is on developing traffic in the national Capital and improving the training of the police personnel. The budget was presented in the Lok Sabha today. The budget allocated to the police for the next fiscal for developing traffic and communication network in Delhi and the NCR is Rs 11.57 crore. In the ongoing fiscal this was Rs 11.71 crore and was later revised to Rs 7.51 crore. Installation of traffic signals in Delhi will also be another focus area for the police. The budget allocated for this project for the fiscal year 2014-15 is Rs 11.50 crore. In the present fiscal year, the budget allocation was Rs 4 crore and was later revised to Rs 3.46 crore. For upgrading the training of the Delhi police, the Centre has given a budget of Rs 4 crore for the fiscal year 2014-15. For this fiscal year, the budget was Rs 1 crore and was revised to Rs 3.49 crore. The safety schemes for women also remain an area of concern for the police, as it is often reiterated by the Delhi Police Commissioner, B.S. Bassi. The Centre has allocated a budget of Rs 2 crore for the safety schemes of the police for 2014-15. |
CRPF female force leaves for peacekeeping mission in Liberia
New Delhi, February 17 According to Trivedi, there are 125 personnel who form part of the batch. "Their main responsibility is to maintain law and order. The President's Palace (in Monrovia, the capital of Liberia) also falls in their area of responsibility. But more importantly they are India's ambassadors and will strengthen our image there," said the DG. The CRPF contingent, as part of the UN mission in Liberia, is also training the Liberian police to overcome the prolonged civil war and restore civil order. The batch of the Female Formed Police Unit (FFPU) will serve tenure of one year in Liberia. The batch is led by Neeraj Bala, Second-in-Command. The members of the contingent have been chosen from all CRPF formations and through a tough selection process. They have been imparted seven weeks professional training, keeping in view the prevailing situation in Liberia. Seven female and four male contingents have already been sent to Liberia since January 2007. |
BJP to hold demonstration against AAP
New Delhi, February 17 In a statement issued here, Goel said the protest will mark the launching of party's campaign against AAP's "doublespeak and Maoist policies" and will be followed by demonstrations in all 28 assembly constituencies of Delhi from where AAP MLAs got elected. Sushma Swaraj will address the BJP cadres tomorrow on this occasion, he said. "All the promises made by the AAP have remained on paper. During 49 days rule of the AAP, there was complete anarchy in the city. Now, the AAP is trying to falsely claim the achievements which were never there," said Goel. |
Cong chalks out plan for Lok Sabha polls
New Delhi, February 17 Party Delhi president Arvinder Singh Lovely termed former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's resignation a move to hide its failures. "Kejriwal had broken all records in telling lies in 49 days. We will go to the people to expose all these false announcements, and the party will announce its action plan tomorrow," said Lovely. He said the party has finalised plans to bring out the lies of the AAP by organizing agitations on the streets. A resolution was introduced condemning Kejriwal for misguiding people on the issues of power and water. "The resolution said Kejriwal will be responsible when the people get power and water bills at double rates from April 1," he said. The resolution also took the AAP to task for restricting the power subsidy only up to March by passing the Finance Bill in the Delhi Assembly, as well as giving 700 litre of free potable water only up till March 31. |

New Delhi, February 17 Jai Hind Battery Union president Rajat Taneja said, "There is a need for a policy that regularises plying these e-rickshaws. In the absence of any policy, they often get harassed by authorities and there is an atmosphere of uncertainty among them." |
Two killed, two hurt in building collapse
New Delhi, February 17 The building is reportedly owned by Indian cricketer Virendra Sehwag's father-in-law. The victims are labourers who were renovating the building when a part of it collapsed at 12.15 pm. They have been identified as Pushpa (60) and Rani (45) who were killed and Ramu (28) and Geeta (50) who were injured. "Most of the victims were present on the first floor of the building when it collapsed," said a police officer. The police and the fire department were informed about the incident about 12.30 pm. Three fire tenders rushed to the site of the incident. The victims were taken to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital, where Pushpa and Rani were declared dead. According to the police, the roof of the third floor had collapsed which also damaged the other parts of the building. Sources said the building was owned by Sehwag's father-in-law, who had given the building on rent to a man named Ramesh. Ramesh was allegedly carrying out the renovation of the building. The police have registered a case under Sections 288 (negligent conduct with respect to repairing buildings) and 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. It has been registered against unidentified persons at the Bara Hindu Rao police station. |
ASI arrested in bribe case
New Delhi, February 17 The officer is posted with the Shakarpur police station in East Delhi. The complainant told the police that his vehicle was impounded during an investigation of a case registered under Section 279 of the Indian Penal Code for negligent driving. "Consequent to it, there was demand of money by the investigating officer for bail and release of the impounded vehicle," said a police officer. |
63-yr-old woman strangled to death
New Delhi, February 17 As the house was ransacked, the police suspect that she was killed when she was resisting a robbery. Her family told the police that around Rs 4 lakh and jewellery around worth Rs 6 lakh are missing. The victim, Mohini Gupta, stayed with her husband Rajkumar and their three children. Rajkumar, who is a jeweller, has a shop at Chandni Chowk. The murder came to light when the maid came to the house about 3 pm. "The maid saw the main gate of the house open. When she went inside, she saw Mohini lying in the bedroom. When she did not respond and her maid called for help," said a police officer. Hearing her shouts, the neighbours gathered on the spot and informed the police. "It appears that Mohini was strangled," the officer added. The body was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for the post-mortem. The police probe revealed that the killer gained a 'friendly' entry into the house. |
