Two held in Jaitpur triple murder case
New Delhi, February 16 The accused were identified as Sachin and Veer Singh who had heated arguments with Amit Mishra (21). This was not the first time; in the past also they had arguments on parking issue. But last evening they had heated arguments following which the accused fired at Amit, said a police officer. Amit's parents - father Prakash Mishra and mother Shanti Devi, both in their 50s - were not at home when the incident took place. When they came back and enquired about the incident the accused fired at them also and flee the spot. Amit died on the spot while his parents collapsed in the hospital. The officer said due to the arguments that used to take place often had become a case of personal rivalry. As all the three family members had died, there was nobody to tell the police about the accused and the reason for the incident. Gradually when the police talked to a number of people living nearby the victims' house, they informed about the accused and history of the case. After investigating the case, the police arrested the accused who were absconding. "We got a call around 10.30 pm, while Amit was found dead on the spot," said the officer. |

New Delhi, February 16 The ABVP demanded that the Centre take adequate steps to ensure that such acts are not repeated and to ensure it special programmes for national integration and unity should be started all over the country and tourism should be encouraged in the Northeast. The ABVP has issued helpline numbers for Northeast students in Delhi i.e. 9810900912, 9716199780, 8800813757. |
500 street vendors join indefinite hunger strike
New Delhi, February 16 While about 70 of them remained stationed at the site, protesters plan to picket both the Congress and BJP offices tomorrow, if their concerns are not heeded. The fasting vendors led by Vimala Devi, a female street vendor, were joined by their leaders from Bihar, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra. Sharing their plight at the hands of police and municipal authorities they asserted the political parties, including the BJP to show moral and political courage to support for the passage of the bill. "We suffer daily at the hands of corrupt police and municipal inspectors. They harass us, humiliate us and demand extortion money. This must stop. We need safe space, dignity and voice," said Ram Karan, a fruit vendor of Badapur. A street vendor leader of Jabalpur Gopal Singh Lodhi said, "A strong law protecting our livelihood can only put brake on loot and terror of police and municipal officials. Such people need to be put behind bars. Except such people, a large section of society recognizes our contribution and respects us for our labour and pain." |
Delhi Metro to have 22 interchange stations by 2016
New Delhi, February 16 An official of the DMRC said with the completion of third phase of the Delhi Metro, the number of interchange stations will increase to 22 from the current nine, leading to a drastic reduction of travel time and saving of commuters' money. At present, there are nine interchange stations - Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate, Central Secretariat, Inderlok, Ashok Park Main, Yamuna Bank, Dwarka Sector 21, New Delhi and Kirti Nagar. Once phase III becomes fully operational by 2016, Delhi Metro network will have 13 more interchange hubs across the city, which includes Hauz Khas, INA, Rajouri Garden, Mayur Vihar phase I, Azadpur, Netaji Subhash Place, Lajpat Nagar, Anand Vihar, Karkardooma, Welcome, Kalkaji Mandir, Botanical Garden and Mandi House, the official said. He said with the coming up of interchange stations at Karkardooma and Anand Vihar in the third phase, the present day distance of these stations from the nearest Welcome Metro station will come down drastically to 4.34 km and 5.49 km from the earlier 19.26 km and 20.32 km, respectively, if going by a train. This will not only save travel time, but will also help in saving money for the passengers. Similarly, with the coming up of other interchange stations in phase III, commuters in almost all parts of Delhi will be able to change trains without going to the present interchange stations like Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat. For instance, the Hauz Khas Metro station will come up as an interchange between Line 2 and the Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden corridor (Line 8) of Phase III. Passengers coming from Gurgaon on Line 2 will be able to get down at Hauz Khas and take a direct train to Kalkaji. By doing so they would save travelling distance of about 13.14 km. |
Govt doled out Rs 323 cr to Reliance: BJP
New Delhi, February 16 Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel said, "This move exposes true colours of the AAP. On one hand it was accusing private discoms in public of overcharging and on the other, it gave away Rs 323 crore to it and that too from funds which was meant for the Municipal Corporations." "This money was to be spent by all three Corporations for welfare of people. But Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was more bothered about filling coffers of Reliance," he said. |
Postpone recruitment process for 37 professors: AIIMS docs
New Delhi, February 16 According to them the ongoing recruitment process violates the Centre's guidelines on representation of Scheduled Tribes (STs), Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). In November 2012, the AIIMS administration had invited applications for 37 vacancies of professor in which 20 were for unreserved category, 13 for OBCs and four for SCs. "These faculty posts were advertised more than a year ago. The rule make it clear that delay of more than a year requires that AIIMS ought to advertise them again as a fresh pool of applicants eligible for these posts could apply," said the letter to the Prime Minister. "Not doing so will automatically deny these applicants the opportunity to compete. This not only limit the choice of the selection committee to select candidates from limited pool, but is also violation of the law," it said. Even the Union Health Ministry in a letter in November 2013 has asked that the roster be as per law, they said demanding the selection process be out on hold till the roster is duly corrected and posts are re-advertised as per the amended roster. Besides, they pressed for reservation in education at super-speciality level at a time when the teaching posts in super-speciality is upheld. This would ensure that the students of the reserved categories get an opportunity for faculty posts or else these posts will be de-reserved. |
