Seizure of fake currency sends alarm bells ringing in Police Department
Ludhiana, January 9
The arrest of Kashmiri resident Bashir Ahmed with Rs 52,000 in fake currency has sent alarm bells ringing in the Police Department. This is the second seizure of fake currency in the past one month. Earlier, on December 11, the police had arrested Mohinderpal and Major Singh with Rs 11.04 lakh in fake currency.

CM makes teachers cool their heels
Ludhiana, January 9
Teachers of aided schools in Punjab, who had gone to Chandigarh to meet the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, returned to the city disappointed. According to the sources, the meeting was fixed for 11 am yesterday, but the officials allegedly failed to convene the meeting with the Chief Minister till 8 pm.

MC eyes DIG office land for widening road

The Municipal Corporation (MC) is planning to acquire some portion of land of the DIG office and the Women’s Cell for the widening of the road leading to the old courts complex area.

Foggy mornings, cold wave due to north-west winds
Ludhiana, January 9
The city witnessed foggy mornings and cold wave due to north-west winds. Meteorologists at the Agro Meteorology Department of Punjab Agricultural University said the maximum temperature is running below normal these days. Today, the Meteorology Department recorded the maximum temperature at 16.8 degrees Celsius, which is three degree less than the normal temperature. The minimum temperature was recorded at 6.4 degrees Celsius, which is quite more than normal.

1,550 big eateries get licences

However, only 1,550 big eateries have got licences and 5,600 small eateries have been registered in the district under this Act so far. Many people are still hoping that the deadline for the implementation of this Act will be extended for a third time while others are still unaware of the Act.

Dept’s ‘apathy’ worries students, teachers
