New Delhi, July 30
In order to deal with increasing traffic, road accidents and vehicular congestion, the Delhi Government has decided to prepare a blueprint to bring about necessary improvement in the public transport system of the city.

Experts from varied fields, including Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Indian Institute of Technology, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Plg. & Engg.) Centre (UTTIPEC), RITES, etc. have been invited to give their opinions on the matter.

A seminar dedicated to the safe and easy transport system will be organized by the government where these experts will help prepare the proposal. The experts will give their opinions on making public transport popular, safe and efficient.

BJP slams DJB for water surcharge
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, July 30
Ignoring the provisions of the Delhi Cooperative Societies Act, 2003, the Delhi Jal Board imposed surcharge along with water bills on the residents of the group housing societies though Section 51 of the Act grants exemption from certain taxes, fees and duties to the residents living in the societies, said a spokesperson for the BJP.

According to the BJP, levying of surcharge, along with water bill, will affect lakhs of families living in group housing societies.

The BJP said that inflated bills ranging from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 15 lakh as surcharge levied retrospectively from 2004 have been sent to housing societies all over Delhi.

This hefty surcharge is levied in addition to regular water bill. These bills have been raised without any basis.

The Delhi Government has notified the last date of making the payment of surcharge as July 31.

The Confederation of Group Housing Societies of east Delhi said that the surcharge is unjust and unfair. Uptil now, the societies were paying water charges on the basis of bulk meter. The DJB now wants ordinary members to pay surcharge on the basis of per dwelling unit, although they have no individual water meter connection. The group housing societies are arranging water supply to individual flats and maintain all necessary infrastructure themselves by raising money from its members.

Now the members are sought to be charged by the DJB also on account of fixed charges or surcharge although they provide no such services. This is in addition to the regular water bills being paid by entire housing society, according to the Confederation of Group Housing Societies.

CBSE students to take health lessons now
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, July 30
From this academic year, students of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) are going to take lessons on healthy lifestyles and grooming of body. In this regard, the CBSE has collaborated with VLCC under the government's National Vocational Education Qualification Framework (NVEQF) programme in order to provide health education to CBSE-affiliated schools.

Keeping in mind the importance of physical fitness, the special training meant for Class XI & XII students is to be provided in 4,500 schools all over the country. The course, launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, would encompass beauty, wellness and nutrition training for the students on various parameters.

It is being designed jointly by CBSE and VLCC.

"Instead of starting with mothers, we think we need to educate children first about the benefits of nutrition and health. Wanting to look, feel good and healthy should ideally begin early, with the schoolchildren," said the founder of VLCC, Vandana Luthra.

With increasing stress and lifestyle imbalances, creating resonance between a healthy body and mind is highly crucial.

"Young people today don't believe in only studying well, they also want to be smart as. To have a social presence along with academic presence is a must for every student.

“In such a scenario, it becomes essential for the Board to consider possibilities of fulfilling students' needs. It is in this light that we developed the Wellness training module," explained Vineet Joshi, chairman of CBSE.
