BJP meet on Muslim welfare tomorrow
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, June 21
Delhi BJP has decided to hold a convention for Muslims at Talkatora Stadium here on Sunday. The convention titled "Muslim for Development" is being organised by the party Minority Morcha to focus on the issues related to socio-economic development of the Muslim population in the city.

The BJP's agenda for the convention is to discuss and present a specific programme for providing better education and employment opportunities to the community.

The programme is a part of the BJP strategy to focus on the specific target groups which have been neglected for the last 14 years by the Congress Government in Delhi.

Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel said, "Muslims in the city constitute at least 12 per cent of the population. As a community, they have been facing a number of problems when it comes to their socio-economic development. The literacy rate among Muslims is much below than the average literacy rate of the city. The BJP feels that it is time to go for the course correction and ensure the welfare of the community."

Delhi BJP's Minority Morcha president Atif Rasheed said, "The Muslims in the city have been left out by the Congress. Today their literacy rate is much less than the average literacy of the city. The dropout rate of school students from the Muslim community is very high. The infrastructure and availability of teachers in schools in the Muslim-dominated areas are dismal. There are no specific programmes for the employment and skill development of Muslim youths."
