The incident was reported from the 12-storey building at about 2.15 pm. Eight people out of the 14 occupants of the lift suffered injuries on their heads, shoulders and knees. They were treated at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

The elevator was headed to the eight and tenth floors when it stopped reportedly due to a system failure and came crashing down.

After the lights went out, the trapped victims screamed for help. "We were sitting at the entrance gate of the building when we heard the noise. We immediately rushed inside and found that the victims were trapped inside the lift," said a security guard of the building, Rakesh Sharma.

Woman held for forcing Uzbek sisters into prostitution
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, June 18
A 35-year-old Uzbek woman was arrested by Delhi Police today for allegedly forcing two Uzbek sisters into prostitution in the national Capital for the past six months.

The accused identified as Dilfoza allegedly supplied the two victims to pimps for Rs 10,000 each every day. Both the victims are in their early twenties. The pimps sent them to at least five customers every day. One of the girls is two months pregnant.

The prostitution racket was unearthed on Sunday night, when the two victims were admitted to the South Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital. They were taken there by locals, who claimed the girls looked distraught when they were at INA Market.

The girls had managed to flee from the accused and hired a taxi to INA Market. They found it difficult to communicate with the doctors and the police at the hospital due to language barrier. However, the victims were able to inform them that they were forced into prostitution by Dilfoza.

She allegedly ran the racket from rented accommodation in Vasant Kunj, where she stayed with her Afghani boyfriend, Khalid.

Missing youth found dead
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, June 18
A 21-year-old man, who had neen missing after meeting his relatives in Seelampur, northeast Delhi last week, was found dead in Sunlight Colony, southeast Delhi, today.

The police said his body was found along the banks of the Yamuna.

The deceased identified by the police as Vineet Kumar, lived with his family in Sunlight Colony. He had been missing since June 13.

His motorcycle was found abandoned at the DND Flyway. His family alleges that he was kidnapped by their neighbours to settle some.

The police, however, said that he may have committed suicide, after they questioned his female friend.

Vineet's father Rakesh said that their neighbours were threatening them with dire consequences on the issue of Vineet's brother Tanuj befriending a girl, who was the daughter of one of the neighbours. A kidnapping case was registered at the Sunlight Colony police station upon Rakesh's complaint on June 14.

The police questioned several locals, but could not establish the sequence of events. "We then questioned Vineet's female friend, who said that he was depressed. After further probing, we suspect that he committed suicide by jumping into the Yamuna from the DND Flyway," a police official said.

Rakesh told the police that Vineet had gone to visit his aunt in Seelampur and was returning home on a motorcycle on June 13. He last spoke to his mother over the phone at 6.45 pm that day. He told her that he had reached Sarai Kale Khan ISBT and was about to reach home, the official said.

But, when he didn't return home, his parents tried contacting him on his two mobile phones. Both were switched off. They contacted his friends, who said that they were unaware of his whereabouts.

Rakesh further enquired with his relatives in Seelampur, who said that they were with Vineet until ITO Ring Road. They also searched for him on a route, which they assumed he may have taken to reach home.

"We went to the Tilak Marg police station and met several traffic police officials, but they were clueless," Rakesh said. Rakesh's younger brother enquired the staff of a police control room vehicle near Sarai Kale Khan ISBT.

They said that they had found an abandoned motorcycle at the DND Flyway.

The motorcycle that was kept at the Sunlight Colony police station was identified by Rakesh.
