The autorickshaws plying in Delhi will now have a colour coding for their identification. The Transport Department today decided to put coloured strips of six types on autos to segregate them into different zones. This would help bring down the cases of refusal to carry passengers.

Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami said that the department has decided to use the services of the Delhi Traffic Police, Delhi Integrated Multi-modal Transit System (DIMTS) and the Police Control Room to evolve a mechanism whereby harassed commuters would be able to report any incident through the emergency buttons provided in the autorickshaws.

"The Transport Department has decided to go ahead with the implementation of the emergency alarm button scheme. Once the passengers press the button, a message would be flashed to the DIMTS-operated control room at ISBT from where the Police Control Room would be alerted," he said.

Man kills daughter, commits suicide

New Delhi, June 10
A 42-year-old man allegedly killed his nine-year-old daughter and then committed suicide by consuming poison in the Malka Ganj area of north Delhi. Praveen Kumar and his daughter, Khushi, were found dead on the second floor of their house in Julahan Basti on Sunday.

Kumar’s nephew, Naveen, saw their bodies. The police were informed at about 1.30 pm.

Their bodies were sent to the Sabzi Mandi mortuary, where a postmortem was conducted. “Prima facie, there was no foul play in the incident. However, we are investigating it from all possible angles. We suspect that the deaths took place between 7 pm on Saturday and 1 pm on Sunday,” a police officer said.

Naveen informed the police that Kumar had allegedly been depressed after his wife, Pooja, died while undergoing an abortion at a clinic in Subzi Mandi in October last year. Thereafter, he became suicidal, claimed Naveen. The couple had married in 2002.

Sources claimed that Pooja’s photograph was found in Kumar’s hand and he was also wearing his wedding attire.

The police have recovered a suicide note from the house, purportedly written by Kumar.
