Bathinda
Kidnapped minor girl rescued:
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the police that was formed to trace a minor girl of Boha town in Mansa district has rescued her from near Mohali. The alleged kidnapper has also been nabbed. The girl was kidnapped from Bathinda about eight months ago. The case came into the limelight when the parents and relatives of the girl had to block roads and stage dharnas when the police failed to find the girl. DIG Bathinda AS Chahal and SSP Mansa Nartinder Bhargav told reporters that the accused kept shifting the girl from one place to another to avoid capture.

Fatehgarh Sahib
Body found in Bhakra canal:
The body of a 26-year-old youth was found from Bhakra canal near Churhpur village located close to Sirhind on Sunday evening. The deceased has been identified as Ravinder Singh of Laadhpur village near Mandi Gobindgarh. Naresh Kumar, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) said the boy had been missing since May 30, last year. He said the deceased worked as a labourer at Mandi Gobindgarh. The deceased’s brother Balwinder Singh alleged that his brother was murdered. The postmortem report is still to be released.

Man held for harassing wife: After 33 years of marriage, one Jaswinder Kaur, resident of Mandi Gobindgarh, has filed a case of harassment against her husband Charnjit Singh, resident of Sunam. Jaswinder has alleged that Charnjit used to harass her with dowry demands and beat her and her daughter. The Mandi Gobindgarh police has registered a case against her husband and arrested him.

Hoshiarpur
Jail inmates go on rampage:
Protesting against the shifting of prisoners, inmates of Hoshiarpur District Jail pelted the staff with bricks and vandalised the DSP's office and set on fire the video-conferencing room in the jail complex this evening. The jail staff had to fire in the air to disperse them. Sources said it was only on the arrival of a heavy police force that the inmates returned to their barracks.

Compensation for sarpanch's family:
District Welfare Officer Jaswant Singh and Balachaur Tehsildar Hukum Chand on Monday handed over cheques amounting to Rs 3 lakh to the widow of sarpanch Chaman Lal at Chhuchhewal village. As many six cheques amounting to Rs 50,000 each have been given to the dependents of the deceased, said Deputy Commissioner Tanu Kashyap.

Patiala
Mann acquitted in hate speech case:
A local court on Monday acquitted senior SAD (A) leader Simranjit Singh Mann in a case registered against him by the Patiala police in 2007 for promoting enmity and “hurting the sentiments of freedom fighters”. Mann’s advocate Brijinder Singh Sodhi said the Patiala police could not prove that Simranjit Singh Mann had made an inflammatory speech against freedom fighters in a press conference held at a local hotel in 2007. The police had booked him under Section 153-A of the IPC. 

Builder fined Rs 22 cr for suppressing income: The Excise and Taxation Department, Punjab, has imposed tax and penalty of Rs 22 crore on Pearls Buildwell Infrastructure Limited, Mohali, for suppressed turnover. Anurag Verma, Excise and Taxation, Commissioner, Punjab, said Rs 5.48 crore had been recovered. This case has prompted the Excise Department to seek a tie-up with the income tax officials to gather information.

Phagwara
NRI among three booked for fraud:
The Phagwara police has booked UK-based NRI Harpreet Kaur and her husband Sukhjit Singh on the charges of registering their marriage by producing fake documents of a local gurdwara. Their accomplice Amar Kishore has also been booked. Phagwara Superintendent of Police HPS Khakh said Harpreet's mother Shwinder Kaur alleged Sukhjit deceived her daughter and wanted to marry her with an aim to settling abroad.

Cables damaged, telecom services hit: Hundreds of BSNL subscribers have been facing a tough time for the last one week as the telecom provider's internet and landline services remained disrupted due to damage to underground cables in several parts of the town. The affected areas include Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Shivpuri, Khotrra road, Industrial Area and Hoshiarpur road. The cables were damaged due to laying of sewer pipes.
