Clash between jail staff, prisoners

Hoshiarpur, June 10
A clash took place between the jail staff and some prisoners over the shifting of some undertrials at the District Jail complex here this evening.

Prisoners Sandeep Singh, Ravi Shankar, and Narinder Singh and Avtar Singh were being shifted to the Kapurthala jail from District Jail Hoshiarpur. At the main gate of the jail, about 30 to 35 prisoners came to see off them. The prisoners who were being shifted and other inmates were not interested in their shifting to the other jail.

During a meeting, the jail staff cut short the time period, which provoked the prisoners, resulting in the clash. The prisoners started pelting bricks at them and also vandalised the office of the DSP and video conferencing room in the jail complex. — OC
