1 killed in mishap:
Deepak Kumar (22) of Shahpur village was killed on the spot when he was hit by a speeding Tata-Indigo car on Monday. The deceased was crossing the road after taking medicines from chemist shop. The police has registered a case against the car driver, who managed to escape. In another incident, Nirmal Singh was run over by a running train near Goraya on Monday. The deceased was crossing the railway lines. A case has been registered in this regard and the body has been sent for the post-mortem examination. — OC

40 donate blood: Forty youths donated blood in Blood Donation Camp organised by the Bhai Desu Naujwan Sabha Atholi during a two-day rural mela organised in the village in memory of Baba Bhai Desu on Tuesday. Former minister Joginder Singh Maan honored the donors and inspired the youths to donate blood for humanity. — OC

Phillaur
Cash snatched
: Motorcycle-borne robbers on Monday snatched Rs 4,000 from Karam Singh of Rajewal village, a shopkeeper, when he was returning home last night. The Bilga police has registered case in this regard. However, the robbers managed to flee after snatching the money. — OC

Foetus found: A male foetus was found near a drain near Sangam Palace in Noormahal in the Phillaur sub-division on Monday. Five-month-old foetus was pulled out from the drain by a few dogs and was noticed by residents who later the police. A case has been registered and investigations are on in the matter. It seems to be related to an unmarried girl who got pregnant, aborted and then threw the foetus in the drain. — OC

Plants’ exhibition
: An exhibition showcasing 108 different species of herbal plants and distribution of 2,100 sapling among general public marked the World Environment Day celebration organised by Coca-Cola India, in association with Ludhiana Beverages Pvt. Ltd, in Balachaur, near here. On the occasion, a seminar on ‘Save Environment’ was also organised to create awareness on pollution prevention and tree plantation among the residents of the area. Shalini Goenka, Executive Director, Ludhiana Beverages Pvt. Ltd, said energy conservation was one of the toughest challenges the world was facing today. — OC
