Kin foil in-laws' bid to cremate woman
Amritsar, May 30
The family of a married woman today foiled the alleged bid of her in-laws’ to cremate her and handed over her body to the police, suspecting foul play in her death, at Patti in Tarn Taran district. Talking to mediapersons, woman’s brother Rajan Upkar Singh said his sister Rimpi had got married to Gurmel Singh of Khemkaran. Since it was second marriage for both of them, he alleged that Gurmel Singh was harassing his sister for the last four months.

Three commit suicide
Hoshiarpur, May 30
Vivek Jain (28), son of Vishnu Kumar Jain of Ludhiana, presently residing at local Mohalla Gobind Nagar, committed suicide by hanging himself with a girder at his rented house. Vivek Jain was general manager at a local factory here. His body was found hanging with a girder at his house today. Due to the alleged torture by the factory owner Mukal Jain, he committed suicide. At the time of incident Vivek Jain was alone in the house.

2 killed, three hurt in mishap
Hoshiarpur, May 30
Two occupants of a car were killed and three were injured when a speedy mini truck Tata 407 (PB-08S-5699) hit their Endeavour car (PB-06P-0001) near Satnaur last evening. The deceased and injured persons were office-bearers of the district unit of the Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha, Gurdaspur.

Kin foil in-laws' bid to cremate woman

The family of a married woman today foiled the alleged bid of her in-laws’ to cremate her and handed over her body to the police, suspecting foul play in her death, at Patti in Tarn Taran district. Talking to mediapersons, woman’s brother Rajan Upkar Singh said his sister Rimpi had got married to Gurmel Singh of Khemkaran. Since it was second marriage for both of them, he alleged that Gurmel Singh was harassing his sister for the last four months.

He said he had received a call from her in-laws’ yesterday that Rimpi was unwell and they wanted to take her to Amritsar for treatment, for which they called him to Khemkaran. Later, her in-laws took her to a hospital in Bhikhiwind where she was declared brought dead. Rajan alleged that her in-laws tried to consign her body to flames in haste, but they thwarted their attempt by reaching there in time. He alleged that his sister was forced to consume a poisonous substance which caused her death. At present, a case has been registered under Section 174 of the CrPC.

Three commit suicide

The Model Town police has booked the factory owner Mukal Jain under Section 306 of the IPC.

In another case, Sarabjit Singh (40) of Janauri committed suicide by hanging himself with the ceiling at his in-laws house at Mahilpur town last evening. Sarabjit Singh was residing at his in-laws house for past sometime and was running a cooker and stove repair shop. He had two daughters and one son. At the time of incident, he was alone in the house.

In another incident, Sukhdeep Kumar (20), a resident of Ward No 11, Mahilpur, committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance. After the post-mortem examination, the police handed over the body to his relatives for cremation and did proceedings under Section 174 of the Cr PC. — OC

BJYM district president, RTI Cell, Sartaj Singh, a resident of Jakrian village, PS Deena Nagar, along with BJYM cashier Sunil Kumar, BJYM district president Shiv Veer Singh, both of Makora village, BJYM executive members Pawan Kumar of Marara and Munish Kasra of Deena Nagar, were returning to their village in the said Endeavour car after attending the coronation ceremony of newly-appointed BJYM Punjab president Mohit Gupta. When they reached near Satnaur village, aforesaid speedy Tata 407 vehicle hit their vehicle. Sartaj Singh and Sunil Kumar died on the spot, while Shiv Veer Singh, Pawan Kumar and Munish Kumar sustained injuries.

Priti , a class X student of govt school situated at Gehri Mandi village ( Amritsar) surfed the net and got an idea of preparing a model - "Doctor Robot", which could help in enabling the people of far-flung areas to have excess to healthcare.

Similarly, Jaswant Singh, a class X student of Govt High School, Talwandi Bharo (Jalandhar), has prepared his innovative model -"Bore-well Rescue Device' to address the problem of saving the lives of children accidently fallen into bore-wells. These are some of the innovative and unique models out of the 486 models demonstrated by schoolstudents belonging to different districts of the state at the state-level Inspire Awards Science Exhibition organised by the Education Department here at KC Group of Institutes.

The Director General School Education ( DGSE), Kahan Singh Pannu, inaugurated the state level Science Exhibition on Wednesday.
