Akalis sweep panchayat polls

The SAD-BJP alliance has gained a clean sweep in the zila parishad and block samitis elections held on May 19, results of which were declared last night. The Congress has gained majority in the Talwara Block Samiti, whereas the remaining were captured by the SAD-BJP alliance.

Teenager gang-raped, four booked
Tarn Taran, May 22
A 15-year-old girl of Pandori Ran Singh village, 15 km from here, was allegedly gang-raped last night at her village. The Chabal police has registered a case under Sections 363, 366 and 376 (2)G of the IPC against the four accused.

Akalis sweep panchayat polls

The SAD-BJP alliance has gained a clean sweep in the zila parishad and block samitis elections held on May 19, results of which were declared last night. The Congress has gained majority in the Talwara Block Samiti, whereas the remaining were captured by the SAD-BJP alliance.

Varun Roojam, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, said out of 24 zones of the zila parishad, Hoshiarpur, the SAD had won 16, BJP 3, Congress 4 and Independent 1. In the Panchayat Samitis polls, out of 204 seats, the SAD-BJP alliance won 122, Congress 62, PPP 4, Independent 15 and CPI (M) 1.

The following candidates had been elected for zila parishad zones. Teenager gang-raped, four booked

Tarn Taran, May 22
A 15-year-old girl of Pandori Ran Singh village, 15 km from here, was allegedly gang-raped last night at her village. The Chabal police has registered a case under Sections 363, 366 and 376 (2)G of the IPC against the four accused.

According to the information, the accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh, Rajwinder Singh, Mintu and Kulwant Singh. The whereabouts of the accused have not been known as yet.

The victim was medically examined at the Primary Health Centre, Chabal, where the doctors have confirmed that the victim was gang-raped.

For further examination, the chemical examination report from Kharar would be awaited. Investigating Officer (IO) sub-inspector Gurwinder Singh said the accused abducted the girl from her house during the midnight on motor cycles. The accused took her to the village fields where they committed the crime.

The victim, in her statement to the police, alleged that she was raped. The IO said the main accused Gurpreet Singh had met the victim a few days back at Gurdwara Bir Baba Budha Sahib where both of them exchanged their mobile numbers .

The accused called her out of her house during the midnight and took her to the village fields outskirts where they committed the crime for more than four hours.

The victim's condition was said to be normal. The victim alleged that the accused threatened her of dire consequences in case she disclosed the incident to any one. — OC
