Centre should help in water crisis: CM
New Delhi, May 28 The meeting was chaired by the Union Minister of Water Resources, Harish Rawat, with participation from Chief Ministers of Delhi and Haryana and Irrigation Ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh. Speaking on the occasion, Dikshit dwelt upon issues of common interest regarding water conservation and management of water resources. She welcomed the initiative taken by the Union Minister to expedite the progress of the upstream storage projects of construction of Renuka, Lakhwar Vyasi and Kishau dams on the Yamuna and requested that the agreements regarding these projects be finalized quickly by the basin states. "This will help optimal utilization of river flows particularly during the non-monsoon months and also improve the ecological health of the river. The Lakhwar Vyasi project has made good progress and it should be completed soon," she said. BJP seeks rollback of hiked milk prices
New Delhi, May 28 President of the Delhi unit of the party Vijay Goel said the Delhi Government has no right to continue in power, if it cannot help the citizens of Delhi "who are fed of the Congress government's anti-people policies and the state of inertia on tackling price rise". "The residents of Delhi have already been reeling under the pressure of price rise. The latest hike in milk prices will further make their life difficult. The governments at the Centre and in Delhi seem to be just oblivious of this fact as they continue to fuel this hike," he added. Mother Dairy, the largest supplier of milk in Delhi-NCR, sells more than 30 lakh litres per day in the region. The party alleged that over the past two years, milk prices have been hiked at least six times with a 20-30 per cent increase in the prices of various categories of milk. "People of Delhi have come out on the streets to oppose the onslaught of the price hike in electricity and water. But the Delhi Government has failed to act," Goel said. The party said the household budget of common people in Delhi has gone haywire. "The money squandered on the ongoing false propaganda by the Delhi Government could have been used for the welfare of the people, providing them some respite from the continual rise in prices of basic commodities," he added. |
'White paper' on water problems soon: BJP
New Delhi, May 28 Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel while slamming the government's handling of the issue said his party will soon come out with a "white paper" which will "feature ways and means to overcome the challenge of water crisis". "We want the Prime Minister to intervene and arrange water for the people of Delhi. We will produce a 'white paper' to deal with problems related to water crisis and solutions to deal with it," Goel said. Various areas in the city have been facing acute water shortage due to increase in demand. He said four states--Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan--held a meeting today in which the three other states were not ready to provide water to the Capital. "The CM is moving away from her responsibilities and has failed to the solve water problem. There is no planning. The government is talking about regularisation of 900 colonies but you (govt) have no water to provide them," Goel said. Cautioning people to be ready to pay high power tariff post-elections if the Congress comes back to power, Goel said, "The public should make themselves ready to pay Rs 10-12 per unit the price of electricity after the election (if Congress is voted back to power). "The government should conduct an energy audit so that we can know how much electricity is being consumed in government offices and how much for industrial, commercial and domestic purposes," he said. He said the Chief Minister should resign if she is unable to provide water and electricity in the Capital.
