GLADA yet to recover Rs 16 crore
Ludhiana, May 28
While the Greater Ludhiana Area development Authority (GLADA) has gone in the overdrive mode to sell residential plots, flats, commercial sites and built-up properties to raise funds, it has failed to recover over Rs 16 crore against the properties sold in public auctions.

MC Joint Commissioner penalised Rs 25,000
Ludhiana, May 28
Taking a serious note of the nine-month delay in providing information under the Right to Information Act, the State Information Commission has imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Joint Commissioner Ajay Sood. The MC has also been asked to pay a compensation of Rs 4,000 to the complainant.

Railways high-up shows no concern for rly station

Dashing the expectations of the railway staff at the city railway station, general manager of Northern Railways VK Gupta did not alight from his train on the way to Delhi. During the 10-minute stoppage at the Ludhiana railway station, Gupta stayed on board train, while the crew accompanying him was being replaced.

Swindler strikes again, dupes woman of Rs 33,000, gold jewellery
Ludhiana, May 28
After conning a 16-year-old girl in the Mundian area yesterday, a swindler struck again and took away Rs 33,000 and 50 gms of gold ornaments from a woman. Narrating the incident, Kiran said the incident took place this afternoon when a youth came to her house in Jawala Singh Nagar on the 33 feet road.

Thakur Dalip Singh joins investigations
Ludhiana, May 28
Thakur Dalip Singh, nephew of late Satguru Jagjit Singh, who was the spiritual head of the Namdhari sect, joined the investigations in connection with the murder case of Namdhari Avtar Singh Tari.

RAPE CASE
School principal held
Ludhiana, May 28
The city police arrested the principal of a school on Tibba road, Bhuvneesh Bhutt, in a case of the alleged rape of a four-year-old girl that took place on May 21. The police has also sealed the school.

22-yr-old woman killed in road accident
Ludhiana, May 28
A 22-year-old woman was crushed to death by a speeding truck at Ganesh Nagar Chowk today. The victim, Ravneet Kaur, was a resident of Vishwakarma Nagar near Dholewal. The incident took place around 10 am.

Bus service for Rishi Nagar residents
Ludhiana, May 28
The residents of Rishi Nagar, Y block, Telephone Exchange, Raman Enclave, Ashok Vihar and adjoining colonies will benefit from city bus service from tomorrow. The decision was taken by the Ludhiana City Bus Service Ltd after a delegation of the residents of the area met Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria.

City tops Punjab in milk production: DC

With a daily production of 37 lakh litres of milk, Ludhiana district tops Punjab in milk production. Punjab is the second largest region that produces 955 million metric tonnes of milk in India. The state produces 262 lakh litre of milk every day.

Show-cause notices were served on 10 Municipal Corporation officials who were caught reporting late for duty at the Zone-D office of the MC in Sarabha Nagar here today. The officials were caught during a surprise check by Zonal Commissioner Isha Kalia this morning.

Youth booked for eve-teasing
Ludhiana, May 28
The Jodhewal police today booked a youth for eve-teasing. The victim’s parents and three brothers were also booked for assaulting the youth’s father. The youth, identified as Rahul, had allegedly followed the victim and passed nasty comments at her.

Man gets 6-month jail in cheque-bounce case
Ludhiana, May 28
Judicial Magistrate Jagmilap Singh Khushdil has convicted Shamsher Singh of Pawa village in a chequebounce case. He has been ordered to undergo an imprisonment of six months and pay a fine of Rs 2,000.
