H1N1 snuffs out two more lives
New Delhi, February 15 Fifty-eight more people have been diagnosed with the viral disease. These cases were confirmed today. The cumulative count of positive H1N1 cases now stands at 301. “Two more patients have died due to H1N1. We received the report today from Apollo Hospital and Jaipur Golden Hospital. Both of them died due to multiple-organ failure. The patient who died in Apollo three days ago had gone to the hospital a week late,” said the nodal officer for H1N1, Dr Charan Singh. Two days ago, a 27-year-old man who was referred from a nursing home to the RML Hospital lost his battle to the fatal virus following a lung infection. In his case too, doctors at RML said that the accompanying lung infection worsened his condition and he died due to multiple organ failure. As of date, doctors said people still do not have to panic as this time the situation doesn’t look as dangerous as it was in 2009 when it was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation. They said patients should report to doctors if symptoms of any regular flu persist even after three days with special caution to high-risk groups—those diagnosed with respiratory disorders like asthma or existing ailments like diabetes and cardiovascular problems. They should get a diagnostic test done if the symptoms continue while adding that sticking to hygienic practices will help. In the wake of the spread of H1N1 earlier this month, 17 government and five private hospitals in the city have been identified as designated swine flu treatment centres which are equipped with isolation facilities in the wards and ICUs. Besides, eight labs, including AIIMS, National Centre for Disease Control and Vallab Bhai Patel Chest Institute, will be performing the diagnostic tests for the influenza virus. |
DU placement drive
gets under way
New Delhi, February 15 The drive began with several sessions on interviewing skills, making resumes, etc. Two firms— Freight Systems and Manpower visited the campus and started their recruitment process. “We have received over 11,000 registrations this year. About 50 companies have registered with the CPC to conduct placement sessions. We have already managed to place around 350 students in different companies. We are optimistic about this placement drive and will have more sessions in March as well. Last year, we successfully placed over 1,000 students and we aim to achieve a 100% target this time,” said Gulshan Sawhney, deputy dean, Students’ Welfare. “Freight Systems, a Dubai-based company, is looking for students in the field of communication. They are looking for BA and B Com students. Manpower, on the other hand, is a firm that provides companies with suitable job candidates and is looking for students from all fields,” added the deputy dean, Students’ Welfare. Several Japanese companies are expected to participate in this session. During the last session in December and January, recruiting companies primarily targeted the second-year students. “This is an emerging trend. It can be attributed to the fact that many final-year students try to keep options open after securing a job offer. This increases the cost of hiring of companies and impacts their planning in terms of human resources. However, the CPC’s focus will now remain on placing the third year students on priority,” added the deputy dean, Students’ Welfare. |

New Delhi, February 15 G-Auto is known for an organized fleet of autorickshaws which give improved service at the doorstep like radio taxies. The new service will provide benefits like door-to-door service, flexibility in operations, and will offer a safe and reliable service. “G-Autos provide metre-based services with a government-regulated fare structure. ‘Dial an autorickshaw service’ makes the autorickshaws only a phone call away,” said EDMC Mayor Annapurna Misra. She said it also provides benefits to drivers, which include accident insurance, health cover, training and additional revenue from advertising. In addition, the autorickshaw drivers as well as the vehicles are part of a central database at the call centre, which make them easy to track. “This increases the reliability and safety of the service, especially for women. The service will be improved further by tying up with the GPS-enabled autorickshaws. Overall, the system will benefit the users and pliers of the G-Auto service,” she said. The service is provided by a public charitable trust called Nirmal Foundation based at Rajkot in Gujarat. It is currently offering services in different cities of Gujarat such as Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Vadodara. |
