‘Go back Modi’, AISA protests his DU visit
New Delhi, February 6 Modi visited the college to deliver a speech on ‘Emerging business models in a global scenario’. The protestors carried placards bearing various slogans. They shouted “Modi go back”. They gheraoed the main gate of the college. Due to the protest, tight security arrangements were made in and around the college. Mediapersons also had a tough time entering the auditorium to cover Modi’s speech. Though Modi entered the auditorium at about 4 pm, the entry of the audience and media had been banned after 2.40 pm. Many college students could not enter the auditorium either. The protestors said, “It is a shame that the person under whose leadership the horrific Gujarat genocide took place is being allowed to use the legitimacy of academic spaces like Delhi University for his fascist ends and prime ministerial ambitions.” “The progressive democratic voices in Delhi cannot let this happen, and so we are protesting,” the activists said. |
Medical and AIDS awareness camp held
New Delhi, February 6 Organised by NGO MIW foundation, the camp had general medical consultation, dental clinic, etc. During the session dedicated to HIV/AIDS awareness, the details about the disease, how it is spread, prevented, medication and counselling to those who have been diagnosed with it were disseminated. Speaking on the occasion, managing trustee of the MIW Foundation, Ashish Bhutani said, “These kinds of camps should be conducted regularly for providing medical relief and creating awareness about AIDS so that more people can be saved from this dreaded disease.” |
Man drives car into barricade, cop injured
New Delhi, February 6 The injured constable named Ashwani was posted at the Anand Vihar police station in east Delhi. A police officer said that the constable suffered injuries on one of his legs. Head constable Rajveer Singh and constable Nanak Chand, both posted in the same police station, were also on duty at the picket. According to Singh, they had tried stopping the Esteem car, but its driver rammed into a second barricade and sped towards Ghazipur. The police later intercepted his vehicle at Ghazipur in east Delhi and arrested the driver identified as Yogesh Sharma. In his complaint, Singh said, "I took Sharma to the Hedgewar Hospital, where a doctor wrote 'smell of alcohol' in his medical test." A case has been registered against Sharma at the Anand Vihar police station. According to Singh's complaint, at 10.40 pm on February 3, the three policemen--Ashwani, Singh and Chand--were on duty at the police picket set up at Road number 56 near the Anand Vihar flyover. They saw the Esteem car speeding towards them. "Ashwani signalled the driver to stop. He slowed the vehicle, but suddenly accelerated the speed and rammed into a barricade. The barricade fell on Ashwani legs. Chand and I tried stopping the car, but the driver rammed into the second barricade and sped towards Ghazipur," said Singh. The head constable noted the car's number and informed other policemen by flashing it on his wireless set. Meanwhile, an emergency response vehicle reached the police picket and took Ashwani to the Hedgewar Hospital. From the police control room, Singh learnt that the car had been intercepted at Ghazipur. He reached there and identified the driver. |
Two bros beaten, third shot at in Gokulpuri
New Delhi, February 6 According to the police, the attackers were allegedly family members and their associates. There was enmity between the brothers and their relative identified as Omi. Two of the brothers named Brijpal (50) and Sanjay (38), suffered injuries after they were attacked with batons. Their third brother, Santarpal (45), sustained a bullet injury in his leg. The brothers stay with their families at Ganga Vihar Colony. This morning, Sanjay was going to his dairy when Omi with his family members and associates attacked him. Due to the beating, Sanjay became unconscious. As Brijpal became aware of the incident, he rushed to rescue his brother. He was also attacked. When Santarpal came to help, he was shot at in his leg. |

New Delhi, February 6 Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta alleged that though the Central Health Department was aware of this fact, it was kept secret. “In this hospital, four children meet untimely death every day. There is apprehension that the clinical trials of medicines are responsible for these deaths. Only a judicial enquiry can unravel the case,” said Gupta. |
Norms for registration of public service vehicles streamlined
New Delhi, February 6 He said that in order to streamline the process and lessen burden on the police authorities, the city government has identified certain conditions for the purpose of registration of public service vehicle and issuance of public service badges, adding that, certain categories have also been exempted from police verification. For issuance of public service badges, certain conditions have been identified to enable the applicant as deemed to be police-verified, said Goswami. |
Man, woman found dead
New Delhi, February 6 The police has conducted the postmortems of Prembai and Jainarayan. “The autopsies have not revealed how they died. We will conduct a forensic test to ascertain the cause of their deaths,” said a police officer. According to the officer, at 11 pm yesterday, they ate their dinner. Prembai’s husband was also with them in Bakkarwala JJ Colony slum cluster, Mundka. After a while, they went to sleep. Her husband went outside the house for some work in the morning. At 4.45 pm today, the police was informed about Prembai and Jainarayan, lying unconscious in her house. They took them to the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital where doctors declared them dead. The officer said that no bottles of poison or any tablets were found near their bodies. Nevertheless, the police might investigate if the two committed suicide. |
