Civic body’s efforts go astray
Despite tie-up with NGO, stray cattle still roam on roads freely

The civic body seems helpless when it comes to tackling the perennial problem of stray cattle. Even though the MC has tied up with an NGO for taking care of them, the animals can be seen roaming freely on the streets.
Stray cattle are a common sight on the city roads. These lead to accidents and traffic congestion in the Old City areas. These animals are mostly diseased and sterile.

‘Dowry hungry’ husband arrested, in-laws booked
Ludhiana, February 6
The city police has booked "dowry hungry" husband and his family members for murderous assault on wife and their one-year-old girl child. The brutality can be gauged from the fact that both arms of the child have serious injuries.

A 31-year-old industrial worker was crushed to death by a truck at Focal Point here today. The incident took place here this morning when victim Ashok Kumar, a resident of Durga Colony, was walking towards his factory unit.

Ignored by forest officials, blue bull nursed by villagers 
Doraha, February 6
A blue bull badly injured by the stray dogs at village Katani Kalan was rescued and nursed the villagers of Katani Kalan. The blue bull was later handed over to the authorities of the Deer Park at Neelon.

Municipal councillor booked for assault
Khanna, February 6
After some scuffle in the municipal committee's Khanna office, a complaint was filed by the Nagar Council Employees Union, president, Anil Kumar, the Khanna police has registered a case against an Independent municipal councillor, Vijay Sharma, and a contractor, Ambika, on the charges of assaulting on a man on duty.

The vigilance department today raided the patwar khana in Dugri and nabbed the patwari red-handed while accepting graft. According to a vigilance official, the revenue official, identified as Satpal, had accepted Rs 20,000 from a decoy.
