New Delhi, January 28 Jitendra Janmeda, an Indian Army jawan, sustained 90 per cent burn injuries and his wife, Deepika Tomar, suffered 35 per cent burns. They are being treated at the Safdarjung Hospital, according to the police. They were married on June 27, 2012 and shifted to his house at Faridabad. On October 3, Deepika started living in her parental house. She approached the Crime Against Women Commission and filed a complaint of harassment over dowry against him. She also registered a case of dowry against him and his mother with the police. She lodged a complaint with the Delhi Commission for Women on the same issue. “Deepika’s complaint read that she was being subjected to mental and physical torture for dowry,” said a police officer. Deepika’s cousin and neighbour, Anil Tokas said, “He reached her house where she had been staying since early October last year. He told her that he wanted to talk to her about their marriage.” According to Anil, Deepika brought Jitendra inside a room. They were talking and after a while, Jitendra locked the door and doused her and himself with petrol and lit a match. Soon, Anil and Deepika’s mother heard her screams and rushed inside the room. They used blankets to douse the flames that had engulfed the couple. They took them to the Safdarjung Hospital and informed the police. |
Robbers slit woman’s throat
New Delhi, January 28 One of the accused was allegedly nabbed by the locals and handed over to the police. The woman named as Sarita married one, Rahul, on February 22 last year. She had been staying at her parental home in West Vinod Nagar since December. Her father Ashok Kumar Jaiswal, a civil contractor, mother, three brothers and a sister-in-law stayed with her. According to the police, the robbers allegedly barged into her house between 4.30 pm and 5.30 pm when she was with her 15-year-old brother Manish. Sarita’s mother, Munni Devi, and sister-in-law, Shweta, had just left the house to visit a nearby market at about 4.30 pm. “They found the robbers inside when they returned at around 5.30 pm. They raised the alarm and the assailants tried to flee,” a police official said.
Devi caught hold of one of the robbers, but he dragged her outside. The locals grabbed him and beat him up, before handing him over to the police. Sources said the robber was in an inebriated condition. Investigators said the assailants were armed with sharp-edged weapons and used it to attack Sarita and Manish. They were rushed to the Lal Bahadur Shashtri Hospital in East Delhi, where doctors declared Sarita dead upon arrival.
“Her throat was slit, while Manish was hospitalized with multiple stab injuries. He is undergoing treatment,” the official added.
The police suspect robbery to be the motive behind the incident, but they are probing different angles to the case. A case of murder and robbery has been lodged with Madhu Vihar police station. |

New Delhi, January 28 “The government is misleading the people on the gangrape case which has shaken the country. The Congress Government is not serious about the issue. He added, “The government did not provide the facilities to the Justice Verma Commission which should have been given under the laws regulating the enquiries in India. Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde did not meet Justice Verma, still he submitted his report to the government within the fixed timeframe.” He said, “One week has passed since the report was submitted, but no step has been taken on it.” Gupta said the government should take strict action to prevent the incidents of eve-teasing, rape, etc. otherwise the Bharatiya Janata Party will hold agitations and will not allow the sacrifice of the gangrape victim go in vain. |
