Smack seized:
The police has arrested Lakhwinder Singh and Sukhdev Singh of Pucca Seed Farm for carrying 50 gram of smack near the new grain market here on Friday. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the duo.

Barnala
Undertrial commits suicide:
Sukwinder Singh (26), a resident of Dhanaula who was undergoing trial in a theft case, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in the sub-jail of Barnala on Thursday night. Barnala City station house officer Satish Kumar said the post-mortem examination of the body was conducted at the Civil Hospital here. Later, the body was handed over to the deceased’s family members.

Ludhiana
Maintenance work to hit e-filing of VAT returns:
Traders who are yet to file their VAT 15 and VAT 20 returns will face yet another difficulty since e-filing services for VAT 15 and VAT 20 will remain disrupted on February 16 from 5 pm till 5 pm on February 17. Since the department's website will be undergoing maintenance no returns will be filed on these two days.

Burns victim referred to PGI:
Twenty-year-old Manpreet Kaur of Wajidpur village near Patiala, who was admitted to Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, yesterday after she was allegedly set ablaze by three women of her village, was referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh, today in a critical condition. The girl had suffered 85 per cent burns. According to the girl's statement, Mukhtiar Kaur, Veerpal Kaur and Taranpreet Kaur barged into her house on Thursday and set her ablaze.

Ropar
Fake currency seized:
The local police on Friday seized fake currency notes worth Rs 98,500 from Sanjeev Kumar of Himachal Pradesh. Ropar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Indermohan Singh Bhatti said on a tip-off, the Anandpur Sahib police intercepted the accused near the railway station and seized 104 fake currency notes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 denomination.

Sangrur
Farmers block road for 3 hours:
Under the leadership of BKU (Ugrahan), a large number of villagers from Toor Banjara village (near Dirba), on Friday blocked the Sangrur-Patran main road at Toor Banjara village for about three hours. They were protesting against the handing over of a farmer’s son from the village to the police by Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) officials.

Colonisers booked:
On the complaint lodged by Amrik Singh, District Town Planner, Kurukshetra, the police has registered four cases at Shahabad police station against 10 persons for allegedly carving four residential colonies at Patti Jhanmbra village in this district without prior permission from the Director, Town and Country Planning, Haryana, Chandigarh.

Office-bearers of KUTA: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Kurukshetra University Teacher Association (KUTA): Dr HK Sharma - president; Dr Sanjeev Sharma - vice-president; Dr Pramesh - Secretary; Dr Avnesh Verma - joint secretary; and Monish Gupta - treasurer. Besides, 16 have been elected members of the KUTA executive council.
