PGIMS short of super-specialist docs: TMC
Ravinder Saini

Jhajjar, December 17
Expressing deep concern over the alleged ‘poor condition’ of Pandit BD Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science (PGIMS), Rohtak, Haryana Trinamool Congress (TMC) has demanded better health services and super- specialist doctors at the institute, so that the poor people can get advanced medical treatment.

While talking to mediapersons in Bahadurgarh town here recently, Satish Tyagi, state chief of the Intellectual Group of the TMC, said Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led state government had entirely failed in providing an adequate number of super-specialist doctors at the PGIMS, even after eight years of its regime.

“Many of the senior doctors have already switched over to other hospitals from the PGIMS and several other prominent ones are also contemplating the same option due to the attitude of the authorities as well as the government towards them,” Tyagi added.

He said, “How much the government is serious towards development of the PGIMS and welfare of its doctors can be gauged from the fact that the institute has been reeling under an acute financial crunch for a long time, leading to an unending halt to development works and non-payment of salary to doctors for the past several months. Patients have to go to private laboratories to get their medical investigations done owing to shortage of materials used for medical tests.”

Tyagi questioned the state government that why it was not fulfilling the posts of super-specialist doctors lying vacant for last several years.

“The government does not seem to be serious about improvement of the conditions at the PGIMS. In this situation, how can you expect better health services when the institute is suffering on several counts -- insufficient funds, shortage of super-specialists and lack of medical-investigation facilities etc,” said Tyagi.

Hundreds of dairies bane of Rohtak residents
Bijendra Ahlawat/TNS

Rohtak, December 17
The authorities might claim to have changed the Chief Minister’s hometown to an education hub from the city of dairies, but the reality appears otherwise. The city is still suffering by the problem of choked sewers, thanks to hundreds of dairies operating in the residential areas. The plan of shifting dairies outside the civic limits of the town seems to be hanging in fire as over 1,000 dairies are reportedly operating in residential colonies.

“Dozens of dairies are operating in our locality. Not only do they cause stink but also result in choking of sewerage lines. Despite the fact that the matter has been brought to the notice of the officials concerned, the problem is as persistent as ever’’, claimed Raju, a resident of Prem Nagar here.

He said with the colony being densely populated, the movement of the residents and the traffic gets disrupted as the owners of the dairies keep their animals on the roads and streets, resulting in inconvenience to others.

“The dairies operating in the residential areas do not realise that their cattle are a cause of constant inconvenience to others,’’ said Raj Singh, a resident of Kirpal Nagar here.

He added that despite tall claims, the authorities, including the state government, had failed to implement the ambitious plan of shifting the dairies outside the town. The plan had been chalked out more than two decades ago.

Yoginder Dahiya, a local social activist, said there was hardly any locality where dairies were not operating and where there was no problem of choked sewers. Dairies had become a bane of the city due to lack of foresightedness and action on the part of the authorities, he added.

Joint Municipal Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, Rohtak, Ashima Sangwan said work on shifting the dairies to newly developed dairy complex near Kanheli village was on. She claimed that challans were being issued against the offenders in case of any complaints. However, none of the officials of the civic body could provide the data of illegal dairies operating in the town at present.

Runaway couple faces hurdles at Sirsa protection home
Sushil Manav
Tribune News Service

Sirsa, December 17
When newly-wed couples fly to exotic sites after marriage, a young couple from well-off families of Sirsa town is ‘honeymooning’ in the protection home set up by the district authorities here, ever since they married on December 11.

Ruhani, an MBA student from Chaudhary Devi Lal University, married Ankush, who runs a garment shop in Suratgarhia Bazar of Sirsa town, against the wishes of her parents.

Ankush has done his masters degree in English literature from Kurukshetra University through distance education and has also done a diploma in aviation from Frankfinn.

The couple first solemnised their marriage in the Sarsainath temple here and then completed formalities of court marriage. “This is a strange experience, of being locked in a small wooden cabin in this protection centre immediately after marriage. I am definitely not liking this kind of a honeymoon,” said Ruhani, who is preparing for semester examination of the university, which are in progress these days.

A police gunman sits outside their cabin and they have to order food from some hotel in the cabin itself.

However, she said she had finally married the person she had loved for seven years.

With Ruhani’s examinations in progress, the couple does not have a tube light or an electric bulb point in working condition in the room thereby hampering her studies largely.

While Ankush’s parents are happy with the marriage and they in fact organised a small family get-together to celebrate the occasion recently, Ruhani’s parents are not ready to accept the wedlock.

“Perhaps, they think I do not earn enough to keep their daughter happy,” said Ankush.

He said their families lived in the same neighbourhood, from where their 7-year old dating began and a time came when his family ran in financial crisis. “But now, I wish to tell Ruhani’s family that I can earn enough from my business to keep my wife happy,” he added, asking his in-laws to shower their blessings on the couple.

FDI to help in infrastructure development: OSD to Hooda
Sushil Manav/TNS

Sirsa, December 17
The newly appointed Officer on Special Duty (Media) to Chief Minister Bhupunder Singh Hooda, Dr Kamal Veer Singh, popularly known as KV Singh, reached his hometown Dabwali to a tumultuous welcome from his supporters recently.

The supporters of Dr KV Singh received him at PWD Rest House and then took him to Dabwali town amidst the beat of drums in a cavalcade of vehicles.

“If the Chief Minister has expressed confidence in him today, the credit for it goes to people of Dabwali, who have always reposed their confidence in me,” said the newly appointed OSD in his address.

KV Singh had contested the Dabwali seat on Congress ticket in the 2009 Assembly elections.

However, he lost to his nephew, Ajay Singh Chautala, of the INLD.

“Though I lost the poll technically, I polled over 53,000 votes by your support and I was placed ninth in Haryana in terms of the number of votes,” KV Singh claimed.

He said despite losing the seat, the Hooda government nurtured the constituency well and claimed that a sum of Rs 200 crore had already been spent in Dabwali during the past three years.

He called upon his supporters to start preparing for the coming election in right earnest.

“Whosoever gets the party ticket, my aim is for a Congress victory in Dabwali in the next Assembly elections,” Dr KV Singh said. He said while Hooda always thought of development of Haryana, the opposition parties had a sole agenda of dragging the state backwards.

He said the state government was entering an agreement with the Bhutan Government for the purchase of 2,000 MW of power and a nuclear power plant of 2,800 MW capacity was being set up at Gorakhpur in Fatehabad.

Terming Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail as a blessing for the country, Dr KV Singh said while hundreds of youth would get employment, farmers and traders would also be benefited.

He said while the FDI would improve connectivity of all Haryana towns with Delhi, it would also help in infrastructure development like godowns and stores.
