Kundli gets institute of food technology
Sonepat, November 7 Pawar said the food processing sector had the potential to bridge the gap between the needs of farmers and the consumers, as both were not satisfied for want of remunerative prices and right quality products at right costs, respectively. Gurgaon, November 6 The protesters claimed that the police had refused to release two of their leaders, Ram Niwas and Om Prakash, on the pretext that they were named in the FIR pertaining to the July 18 violence. As a precautionary measure, the police stopped the protesting workers from moving towards the DC’s office and even removed their tents. They were stopped around 500 metres from the Secretariat. However, around noon they were allowed to start their strike near one of the gates. In addition to this, nearly 145 arrested workers refused to eat their lunch in the Bhondsi jail in support of the strike. "The investigation into the alleged murder of HR manager and the violence is yet to be completed and the company sacked more than 500 workers. A majority of us are not responsible for anything but have been targeted for demanding our rights. We want a thorough investigation into the July 18 violence," said one of the protesters. With Manesar worker union having become defunct with their leaders in jail, the sacked workers have constituted a seven-member provisional committee which is leading the strike. |

Karnal, November 7 An NRI woman, married to an Indian, three years ago has accused her husband of duping, cheating and exploiting her physically and emotionally. She is running from pillar to post for justice. Rama Sharma has come all the way from USA after knowing about the escapades of her husband Neel Kamal, a resident of Sector 9, Karnal, and a divorcee. They married on October 2, 2009. In a complaint lodged in Civil Lines police station, she alleged that her husband had betrayed her from the very first day after marriage and during the past three years she had transferred about Rs 1 crore through numerous transactions from Western Union Bank. She said she came in contact with Neel Kamal through her cousin in 2008 while she was abroad. Neel Kamal told her that he was a divorcee and showed her the divorce papers to convince her. As she was visiting India for five weeks, the got married on October 2, 2009 at Anmol Garden, Delhi. The marriage was registered after four days on October 6, she said. “But to my utter shock, I came to know that Neel Kamal has lied to me. He is living with his first wife Reena. His friend Dheeraj Kharkali conspired to extract cash from me and Neel Kamal duped me of money and also emotionally and physically exploited me,” she alleged in her complaint. Power SE, XEN offices found using ‘kundi’
Jind, November 7 Though the faulty meters have been replaced, the district unit of the BKU has started a dharna outside the office of the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, seeking the registration of power theft cases against the officials concerned. The department has claimed to have detected 471 cases of power theft in the last one month as part of the check power theft drive in the district. “The offices of the SE and the XEN here had been getting power supply through a kundi connection for the past several months as the meters installed there had become defective or had been removed,’’ claimed Mahender Ghimana, who has been among those who brought the matter to the notice of the media and local residents. He said following the expose, the officials concerned got the faulty equipment replaced with new ones within a couple of hours. It is revealed that the meters of the offices of SE and the XEN had gone faulty in January and February, 2011, respectively, and since then the supply made was directly from the line. Ghimana said this was blatant misuse of the authority and if the officials of the department indulged in such activities how they could prevent theft by the consumers or book them for power theft. Demanding a probe into the expose, he said the officials had recently booked several consumers on charges of overload connection at Gulkani. He said the dharna would continue till action was taken against the officials concerned. The SE, O.K. Sharma, claimed that he was not aware of any incident of this nature. The XEN, J.K Arora, denied the allegations of power theft as he claimed that the units consumed by the office were free though only a track record of the consumption was kept by the office. He, however, said that he was not aware of the limit on the free power unit consumption. Jind has one of the highest line loss rates pegged around 50 per cent which includes 73 per cent in rural and 30 per cent in urban areas. Though 471 cases of theft have been detected in the district in the past one month, these do not include any office or government official, reveal sources. Among the major defaulters, the public health and the irrigation departments here owe a whopping Rs 2.25 crore and Rs 50 lakh, respectively, to the department at present. |

Sikhs to campaign against Cong: Nalvi
Ambala, November 7 Didar Singh Nalvi, who has been spearheading a campaign for the separate SGPC in Haryana, said the Congress had thrice deceived the Sikhs of the state by promising to constitute Haryana SGPC in its election manifesto during the assembly elections in 2009. He said the Congress had managed to get a mandate in the assembly as well as Lok Sabha elections in 2009 by promising that they would constitute the separate SGPC in the state. Nalvi claimed that Sikhs were in a majority in as many as 31 of 90 assembly segments in the state and they would not vote in favour of the Congress
in any of the elections to be held in future as it had failed to fulfil the promise. He said the state government had already gone ahead with the constitution of a human rights commission and Scheduled Caste commission, while the demand of the Sikhs for a minority commission was still hanging fire. He reiterated that the right to manage their shrines was a fundamental right of the Sikhs. He said by not constituting the separate SGPC for the Sikhs of Haryana, the state government had violated the provisions of the Punjab Reorganisation Act of 1966, according to which a separate body to manage the affairs of the Sikh shrines in Haryana was to be constituted as had been done in case of the Wakf Board. Nalvi said by denying the state Sikhs right to run
their own shines, the government was hindering their growth as a community. He said non-constitution of the minority commission had made it difficult for the Sikhs to seek legal help in case of violation of their rights. |
