Sports Council staff seek regularisation
Jammu, October 21 Cases of the remaining employees have been sent to the department for creation of posts, they claimed. Refuting the claims, the coaches have alleged that the government was not serious about their regularisation and thus a decision in this regard had been delayed. "The decision to regularise contractual coaches/instructors was taken in a meeting of the Standing Committee held in November and we are still waiting for our regularisation," one of the aggrieved contractual coaches said. "In fact, the orders of regularisation were issued for the casual labourers but not in favour of contractual coaches/instructors," he claimed. “The government says that it will boost sports in the state by building more stadiums but for that it needs the services of expert coaches/instructors to impart training to sportspersons," another instructor said. "So many stadiums have already been built by the government in the state but there is an acute shortage of staff because no fresh appointments have been made and the process to hire coaches is being delayed," he said. Sources said 11 persons, including nine coaches and two instructors, were hired on contractual basis by the Sports Council in various disciplines to overcome the shortage. These include Onkar Singh Gill (volleyball coach), Jagjit Singh (hockey coach), Shakti Gupta (judo coach), Dalwinder Singh (hockey coach), Rachna Jamwal (fencing coach), Vikas Magotra (swimming coach), Javaid Ahmed Sofi (football coach), Muneer Aalam Mir (volleyball coach), Rubia Jan (netball trainer) and Mohammad Ashraf Parray (handball instructor). "Despite job offers from outside the state, we are more interested in grooming our own budding sportspersons," said another coach. "We went from pillar to post but in vain as the authorities are least bothered and we are fighting for our rights," he added. |
