Islanding plan to fight grid disturbances

New Delhi, October 17
The national Capital will soon be able to handle a major grid disturbance such as that brought the city to a standstill for hours together during July this year as Delhi is going to have islanding facilities.

The formalities for the islanding technology, which comes much in line with the Mumbai scheme, have been completed and it may become operational within the next two months, announced Union Power Minister Veerappa Moily while addressing the press along with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit here today.

The proposed islanding scheme, which envisages isolating Delhi system and continuing to supply power to essential services like Delhi Metro Rail, water treatment load, Indian Railways, hospitals and other critical areas, is much better than the extant such schemes in both Mumbai and Kolkata, stated Dikshit.

She added that the scheme will be upgraded phase-wise and with this coming in place, Delhi can have an uninterrupted power supply.

Moily said that the work for ‘Islanding scheme for Delhi during grid disturbances’ which was to be completed within three months have been accomplished much earlier.

Under the proposed system, whose overall responsibility of operation will lie with Delhi State Load Dispatch Centre, four islands of Delhi’s power system will be created to meet the heavy loads in case of grid troubles. The power network of Delhi is far more complex than the Tata system of Mumbai and CESC system of Kolkata.

Keeping in mind the complexity of the Delhi power network, some additional components like maintaining dual source of supply to essential loads, training of system operators, etc.are proposed to be taken up under this scheme.

Govt allotted land to DLF at cheaper rate: BJP MLA
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, October 17
Highlighting the ongoing connection of the DLF and the Congress, BJP MLA Karan Singh Tanwar today levelled allegations on the Delhi government for allotting land to the DLF to build multi-level parking complex at Baba Kharak Singh Marg near Connaught Place.

Tanwar alleged that the land worth billion of rupees was sold to the DLF at a cheap price on lease for 30 years by the Congress.

According to Tanwar, the land was allotted to DLF at Sarojini Nagar and Chanakya Cinema by the then New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) chairman, Parimal Rai.

Demanding a CBI probe into the matter, Tanwar said that in 2007, the NDMC allotted a piece of land at Baba Kharak Singh Place to build a multi-level parking complex.

“The licence was issued to the DLF developers at a cheap rate. It was decided that the DLF would pay Rs 22 lakh per month to the NDMC. Likewise, two more plots were handed over to the DLF at cheap rates,” he said.

“The DLF got the lands at three places by the Congress-led government. It was said by the state government that the parking complex would be world class to get the public appreciation, but the complex is in a pathetic condition. People don’t want to park theircars at the complex as it is not technically fit,” alleged Tanwar.

He further alleged that the DLF has earned billions of rupees by constructing hundreds of shops on the ground and first floors, violating the rules.

“I raised the issue of allotment of land and wrote to the then NDMC chairman. Project worth Rs 220 crore was allotted to the DLF for only Rs 81 crore,” alleged the BJP MLA.
