Abohar
Man kills wife, daughter
: Deepinder Bishnoi (32), a resident of Sadhuwali village here, allegedly shot dead his wife Sakshi Bishnoi and three-year-old daughter Deepti. He also shot at his mother and tried to commit suicide. Preliminary investigations revealed the accused had a verbal duel with his wife a day before the incident took place. The police has seized the revolver used in the crime and 14 live and some empty cartridges.

College teachers to launch agitation
: The Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU) has decided to launch a state-wide agitation by going on mass casual leave and holding protest rallies in support of their long-pending demands. They have been seeking implementation of the pension and gratuity scheme. PCCTU president Prof JR Prashar said the first such rally would be held in Patiala on October 19. The teachers working in colleges affiliated to Panjabi University would take mass casual leave the same day, he said.

10 quintals poppy husk seized
: The local police has seized 10 quintals of poppy husk from Sapinder Singh and Surinder Singh of Bindrakh village in Ropar and Karam Singh of Jallan village in Khanna district. The accused have been arrested. DSP Sant Singh Dhaliwal said on a tip-off, CIA staff found 25 bags of poppy husk from a truckload of cattle feed.

Teenager raped in Malerkotla
: The Malerkotla police has registered a case under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC against Mohammad Saif (22), a local resident, for allegedly raping a girl. SHO, Malerkotla police (City II), Kuldip Singh said the girl was on her way to the house of her maternal uncle. when she reached near Saif's house, the latter allegedly pulled her in and raped her, he said, adding the police had recorded the statement of the victim. "We are conducting raids to arrest the accused," he added.

Kurukshetra
Three arrested
: The police has arrested three persons for allegedly stealing motorcycles from different places. “Five stolen motorcycles have been recovered from their possession,” said Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar Arya. The arrested persons, who were produced in the court here on Tuesday, were remanded to judicial custody. 

Man killed: Gurdev Singh, a resident of Shahabad, was killed on the spot and a woman was injured when an unidentified motorcycle hit deceased’s motorcycle near Kalsani village in the district on Monday evening. 

Husband booked: In a complaint lodged with the police, Rajinder Kaur, a resident of Ward No. 2, Pehowa, alleged that she was married to Taranjeet Singh, a resident of Dera Siyana Saida, and since then he and his parents had been demanding dowry and threatening her. The police has registered a case against the trio. 

Eye camp held: As many as 212 patients were examined by Dr Rajesh Saini at a free eye check-up camp organised by the OP Jindal Gramin Jan Kalyan Sansthan at Khanpur Kohliyan village, 10 km away from here, on Tuesday. Sansthan spokesman said 35 patients suffering from cataract would be operated upon by the organisation free of charge, while 105 patients suffering from eyesight related problems would be given spectacles free of cost.

Girl killed
: A Class XII girl student of Government Senior Secondary School, Bodia Kamalpur village, succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital here on Tuesday. Manisha was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition after her cycle was hit by an auto-rickshaw at the village on Monday when she was returning to her native Dehlawas village.
