Couple, daughter found dead in their Rohini house
New Delhi, September 21 YPS Chauhan, a 55-year-old businessman, his 50-year-old wife Rekha and 22-year-old daughter Karishma, were found dead under mysterious circumstances in the Rohini area of outer Delhi. The police says the entry into the house was friendly. It was not ransacked, suggesting that someone known to the family may be involved. The family lived in a two-storey house in B-Block of Sector 17, Rohini. Chauhan ran a godown for chemicals in Shahbad Daulatpur. "He was found with head injuries on the ground floor of the building while Rekha and Karishma were found strangulated on the first floor," said Joint CP TS Luthra, Northern Range. The deaths came to light when a local priest's daughter went to the house at around 7 am and found the main gate open. According to nearby residents, the family was scheduled to catch a tourist bus to Vaishno Devi with the priest Udaychand Jha and some others in the neighbourhood on Friday morning. "The bus arrived on time, but Rekha was nowhere to be seen. So, Udaychand sent his daughter Sunaina to call Rekha," said Naresh Kumar Gupta, Chauhan's neighbour. Sunaina went to Rekha's house and found the gate unlocked. "When she went inside, she saw Chauhan lying in a pool of blood. She alerted the neighbours immediately," Naresh added. Hearing the commotion, the neighbours gathered outside the house and informed the police and Chauhan's elder daughters. The bodies were taken to the Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital for postmortem after a crime and forensic team had examined the house. A case of murder has been lodged at K N Katju Marg police station. The police has ruled out robbery as a motive and found that only Chauhan's mobile phone and Karishma's laptop were missing. Sources say Chauhan's elder daughters are being questioned to find out any property angle to the crime. |
Man kills wife to marry her relative
New Delhi, September 21 According to Anil Kumar Ojha, additional commissioner of police (South-West), Latif (25) married Fatima in 2006 and the two had a son. The couple had been living a smooth life in the Chhawla area till recently when Latif developed a liking for a relative of Fatima. Soon this became an issue of contention between the two. "On Wednesday night, Latif told Fatima that he wanted to marry this relative. This enraged Fatima and the two had a fight. Upset by Fatima's resistance and unable to find a solution, Latif decided to kill her. When Fatima was sleeping, he allegedly smothered her. After making sure that Fatima was dead, Latif called his father and concocted a story of robbers killing Fatima," said Ojha. During police interrogation, Latif claimed that he had cordial relations with Fatima, but he came under suspicion after Fatima's father alleged that the couple had been fighting for sometime over Latif's proposed second marriage. Latif's in-laws also alleged that he used to beat Fatima. Though initially Latif claimed that robbers had killed Fatima, on strict interrogation, he confessed to have killed her, said senior police official. |
DTC running 1,800 old buses
New Delhi, September 21 He said that at present the DTC has 3,700 low-floor and 1,800 outdated buses. In 2010, the government had said that with a total of 10,400 buses, the DTC would provide adequate transport services in Delhi. The DTC would operate 4,400 buses and the rest would be operated by the DIMTS under the cluster system. The DIMTS had divided the entire city into 17 clusters. The DTC now needs only 700 new buses to complete its total number of required buses and it will purchase them soon, the official said. At present, only 400 buses are being operated under the cluster system. If the DIMTS had brought 6,000 buses on road, the DTC would have stopped operating the old ones, the official said. A bus can be driven up to 5 lakh kilometres. The old buses have completed their life. The DTC has taken a special approval from the transport department of the city government to drive these buses though their maintenance is very costly, the official added. |
DUTA members meet Prez over issues

New Delhi, September 21 DUTA has been up in arms against the administration ever since semester system was introduced at the undergraduate level in 2009. The rift between the two widened after the university approached the Delhi High Court against the teachers in 2010. Since then, there has been almost no dialogue between the two parties. The teachers claim that their repeated attempts to talk with the vice-chancellor have gone unanswered. DUTA office-bearers said that they spoke to the President, who is also the Visitor of the university, about several violations of the University Act, Statutes and Ordinances and the use of emergency powers to bring start new courses and centers like the Cluster Innovation Centre. "DUTA also told the President about the impunity with which the VC has attempted to stonewall any possibility of dialogues with the democratic organs of the university, including DUTA, the Delhi University Colleges and Karamcharis Union and the Delhi University Students Union," said Amar Deo Sharma, president, DUTA. "Even as DUTA has consistently raised the issues of nearly 4,000 teaching vacancies in the university, the need to immediately implement the Reservation Policy 2006 of the University Grants Commission and the need to grant the long-due promotions at the earliest, the VC has responded with hostility, even warning the teachers against participating in the activities of their association,"
