Man held with smack
:Talwandi Sabo police today claimed to have arrested one Jagsir Singh of Shekhupura with 11 grams of smack. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at the Talwandi Sabo police station.

50 units of blood collected: Fifty units of blood were donated by students and staff of the local Malwa College during a camp organised by the NSS Department of the college. The camp was held in collaboration with the Goodwill Society, Bathinda, and a Blood Bank team of the Civil Hospital, Bathinda.

: Sarvesh Kaushal has been elected president of the IAS Officers’ Association, Punjab, for the fourth time in a row. Suresh Kumar and Kusumjit Sidhu have been elected senior vice-president and vice-president, respectively.

CM forms panel for Ravi Dass memorial:  CM Parkash Singh Badal has constituted a concept committee to chalk out a strategy for building a memorial dedicated to the life and work of Guru Ravi Dass at Khuralgarh village in Hoshiarpur. Among the members are Sant Nirmal Dass Jaura, Sant Surinder Dass Kathar, Sohan Singh Thandal, Som Parkash, Dharmpal Singal and Jasbir Singh Sabar. Sarwan Singh Phillaur will be the convener.

Cap on petrol bill of Board chairpersons: The Punjab Directorate of Public Enterprises and Disinvestment has put a cap on the availability of new vehicles for chairpersons of Boards and cooperatives, tribunals and commissions. An official release said no new vehicle will be purchased for non-official chairpersons and they will have to use cars from the existing fleet of the organisations concerned. The fuel limit has been fixed at 261 litres a month.

CPS Navjot bats for generic drugs:
Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Health, Punjab, Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, said on Friday that the state would launch a drive to boost the use of generic drugs, which were cheaper than the branded ones and as effective as the latter. Dr Sidhu said she had meet Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on the matter.

A local court today sentenced 3 persons to three years imprisonment in a case of forgery. The court convicted them 3 years rigorous imprisonment. The case was registered on July 19, 2003.

ASI shot at
: A youth shot at an ASI here at a traffic naka in Sohna on Thursday. The police said they were conducting a regular check of vehicles when a speeding car approached the naka. The ASI concerned waved his hand to stop the car, but the car driver shot at him. He was rushed to a hospital and is out of danger now.

Karnal
12 injured
: At least 12 passengers were injured when two buses collided head-on near Gharonda on Wednesday night. The incident took place when the driver of a Haryana Roadways bus on its way from Delhi to Jammu veered off to wrong side and collided with another bus. The injured persons were rushed to the Trauma Centre, Karnal. 

Kurukshetra
Rs 5 lakh recovered
: The police has recovered the looted booty of Rs 5.48 lakh, two mobile phones, two motorcycles and two iron rods used in the crime from the possession of three persons who were arrested and sent to five-day police remand on September 15. The recovery had been made from the three culprits involved in the murder of Bhani Shai (42), owner of Balaji Filling Station, HUDA Sector 7, on August 24.

Police protection: The district police will provide security to traders and bank employees whenever they require while going to a bank to deposit or withdraw money. District police chief Rakesh Kumar Arya said directions to this effect had been issued to all station house officers, police post in charges as well as PCR so that any untoward incident could be avoided.

PO arrested: The police has arrested proclaimed offender Hari Ram alias Haria, a resident of Chhota Ajrana village, Kurukshetra. A case under Sections 15, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered at the City police station on January 16, 2006, while the court declared him proclaimed offender on August 31, 2012. 

Three booked: The police has registered a case against three persons for allegedly snatching a mobile phone and Rs 1,000 from Munish Kumar near Khanpur Kolian village on Thursday. 

Man held: The police has arrested Gulshan of Siana Saiada for allegedly stealing a purse containing Rs 1,055 and some important documents from the residence of Pala Ram of the same village. The stolen amount and the documents have been recovered from Gulshan’s possession. 

Demolished: The Town Planning Department has demolished six illegal houses and shops near Ram Nagar in town. District Town Planner (DTP) Amrik Singh said the houses were illegally constructed on an agricultural land. 

Rewari
Two thieves held
: The police has arrested two thieves, Rahul and Aas Mohammad, both residents of Uttar Pradesh, who along with their accomplices, had stolen 449 cartons of wine from Shish Ram Dayma’s godown on the Delhi road here on the night of September 5. The police also seized from them 250 of the 449 stolen cartons as well as a Tata Canter.

Man arrested: The police has arrested Idris of Mewat, who along with four others, had made a bid on the life of police personnel manning a barricade on the Rewari- Pataudi road at Kakodia village on the night of June 4. A police official said when the police personnel tried to stop the vehicle the miscreants were travelling, they made a bid to crush the policemen under the vehicle.

Puppet show organised:
A puppet show was organised at Bijahri recently by the Press Information Bureau under its five-day Bharat Nirman information campaign. Information on various programmes and AIDS awareness was given through puppet shows in the Bijahri area. 

Shimla
3 killed in mishap
:
Three persons were killed when the car they were travelling in rolled down into a 300-feet deep gorge near Hotel Giri Ganga, near Chaila, today. The mishap occurred when the driver of the car lost control over the vehicle. The three persons killed on the spot are driver Vishal Kalta, Surinder Singh and Balbir.
