Travel agent, kidnappers arrested

After failing to get back the entire amount given to a travel agent for sending them abroad, two villagers, in connivance with five persons, allegedly abducted a travel agent in Phagwara and held him hostage in a room.

Domestic violence allegedly took the life of a young woman at Brahmpuri Mohalla, Phillaur. Reports said Rekha (28) reportedly ended her life on Tuesday by setting herself ablaze.

Decomposed body found

The decomposed body of an unidentified person, aged around 40, was found hanging from a tree at Bohan village, 8 km from here, today.

Shop burgled

Travel agent, kidnappers arrested

After failing to get back the entire amount given to a travel agent for sending them abroad, two villagers, in connivance with five persons, allegedly abducted a travel agent in Phagwara and held him hostage in a room.

The latter, however, succeeded to escape after three days. The five kidnappers were arrested by the police under Sections 365/120-B of the IPC and the travel agent was nabbed by the police under Section 420/506 of the IPC on the charges of cheating the persons.

The arrested accused were identified as travel agent Anand Lal, Sandip Singh of village Bharul, Harjinder Singh of village Dugri near Chamkaur Sahib, Gurpreet Singh of village Mehsampur, Sukhwinder Singh of village Khanpur and Karam Din of village Chack Sabu.

The agent was running a travel agency M/S AV immigrations in the local Chadha Market and took Rs 5.50 lakh from two villagers Bhupinder Singh and Daljit Singh for sending and settling them in Singapore, but he could neither send them abroad nor was returning the entire amount. After repeated requests, the travel agent returned Rs 3 lakh to them, but was avoiding to return the balance amount of Rs 2.50 lakh.

Domestic violence claims woman’s life

Phagwara, August 30
Domestic violence allegedly took the life of a young woman at Brahmpuri Mohalla, Phillaur. Reports said Rekha (28) reportedly ended her life on Tuesday by setting herself ablaze.

She was brought to the local Civil Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Ludhiana resident Mohan Lal, the victim’s father, alleged that his daughter was being tortured by her husband Harbans Lal of nearby village Tehing since their marriage. He had been beating her up frequently, he said.

He said he received a phone call from his daughter, who complained against her husband and asked him to take her back to her parental house. He said his daughter had finished her life by setting herself afire before his arrival to her house.

The police registered a case against her husband and handed over her body to her father after conducting the post-mortem examination.

Decomposed body found

Hoshiarpur, August 30
The decomposed body of an unidentified person, aged around 40, was found hanging from a tree at Bohan village, 8 km from here, today.

According to the police, after taking the body in its custody, the police sent it to Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur, for postmortem and identification.

Shop burgled

Phagwara, August 30
Goods worth nearly Rs 5 lakh were reportedly burgled from Gupta Bath Collections in Phagwara last night.

The burglars took away two laptops, a mobile phone, a printer, sanitary goods, including brass and steel taps from the store. The police has registered a case.
