Jalandhar, August 26 The secretary of Punjab Congress, Virendra Sharma, and district Congress (urban) president, Arun Walia, said they would not allow the proposal of aquarium to pass in the MC house. The meeting of new MC house is likely to be held during the second week of September. Mayor Rakesh Rathour said the project would be developed on an area of 0.95 acre by a Philippine-based company Manila Oceanics and Rs 30 crore would be spent on the project. The entire money for construction will be spent by the company and it will be given operational rights for a period of 47 years. The MC will get Rs 11 lakh per annum with an increase of 10 per cent every year. Meanwhile, Terming the agreement for setting up the aquarium as murder of democracy, Virendra Sharma and Arun Walia stated that Rakesh Rathour was a caretaker Mayor, so he had no right to decide about any agreement for any development work. The Congress leaders alleged that the agreement was done by Rakesh Rathour on the behest of Local Bodies Minister Bhagat Chunni Lal “in exchange of money”. Describing it as a legal crisis, the Congress leaders said this was the first instance in the history that two houses, old and new, exist at the same time. |

Five battery thieves arrested
Nawanshahr, August 26 The police seized 40 stolen batteries from their possession. DSP Satish Malhotra said the police party nabbed the miscreants when their Tata 207 carrying stolen batteries was intercepted at a naka near Ottalan village. Manglish from Batala is the mastermind of the gang. Manglish and Amandip Sood worked as technicians in telecom companies. A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered at Sadar Police Station.

Tarn Taran, August 26 The injured were Ajmer Singh of Pandori Takhat Mal village , Kulwinder Singh of Mohanpur village and Pinki of Sarsa (Haryana) . While Kulwinder has been admitted at the local Civil Hospital, Ajmer was admitted at Amandeep Hospital , Amritsar, and Pinki was brought back to Sarsa . The city police have registered a case under Sections 304 A, 279, 337, 38, 427 of IPC against the driver of the bus. The driver has been identified as Sukhchain Singh of Mukatsar district . The bus, was going to Bathinda. The driver of the had bus managed to escape from the spot. One held with pistol, cartridges The Verowal police has recovered a country-made 12 bore pistol with nine cartridges from the possession of Sarabjit Singh Sabba, a resident of Mianwind village, today. A case under Sections 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the accused.The accused was arrested from a naka, which was installed at Ekal Gadda village. Body of newborn found A newborn female baby’s body was found from the Civil Hospital, Patti, last evening. The body was found by Jagram Singh, a class IV employee of the Civil Hospital. The Patti police has registered a case under Section 315, 318 IPC in this regards. Jagram told the police that a stray dog had the body in mouth when he saw the dog. The dog had thrown the body on the hospital complex, which was entrusted to the doctor on duty. The police suspects that an unmarried girl might have committed the crime to avoid the public shame. |
