Abohar
Armyman held with 1-kg opium
: An Armyman, Baljeet Singh, was arrested by the police here after the seizure of a kg of opium from his possession. Posted in Jodhpur, Baljeet was nabbed from Kallarkhera village bus stop during routine checking by the police. The bus stop is situated on the Abohar-Sriganganagar road. Preliminary investigations indicated that he was on his way to Khushal village in Beas sub-division of Amritsar. A case under various sections of the NDPS Act has been registered.

Saplings planted
: Under the Greening Punjab Mission of the state government, members of the Women Cell of Barnala district police, led by SP (Headquarter) and the in-charge of the Women Cell, Vipin Chaudhary, planted over 50 saplings of various trees on the premises of the SSP office here on Friday.

BSP leader’s death condoled
: Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday expressed sorrow over the demise of the national general secretary of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Maan Singh Manheda, who breathed his last on Thursday at the PGI, Chandigarh.

Kisan mela
: A two-day kisan mela will be organised at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU) here on September 12 and 13. An official spokesman said farmers would be acquainted with techniques of soil moisture conservation and dry area crop technology. They would also be apprised of latest farm techniques to increase the yield of rabi crops.

Judicial custody
: Deepak of Gandhi Nagar in Gohana and his mother, Poonam, were arrested by the police for allegedly driving a college student Monika of the same colony to commit suicide on August 9. On the complaint of Monika’s father, Karambir, a case was registered against the alleged accused. Both were produced in a court on Friday, which remanded them in judicial custody.
