City Airport on terrorists' radar
Chandigarh, August 14
As the nation celebrates its Independence Day tomorrow, the Chandigarh Airport will be on the radar of terrorist outfits. The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has issued this warning, fearing a hijack or suicide attacks at the airport. The police as well as the Central Industrial Reserve Force (CISF) deployed for security at the airport have sounded a high alert.

Not a nation of my dreams, says freedom fighter

The only surviving freedom fighter from the city, 86-year-old Ved Prakash Mehra, cherishes the dream of a prosperous nation free of corruption and poverty. Sixtyfive years after a long struggle that won the country its freedom, Mehra has not lost hope of seeing his dream come true during his life time.

Rs 28.5 lakh found in Fiza's 16 accounts
Mohali, August 14
The police today found Rs 28.5 lakh deposited in Fiza's accounts in various banks and post offices. Fiza had five fixed deposit accounts amounting to Rs 21.9 lakh in the State Bank of Patiala branch at the Punjab and Haryana High Court and another five accounts worth Rs 5.95 lakh in post offices of Sectors 30 and 47.

In a significant development, the UT Administration has geared up to ban the sale of food products containing tobacco or nicotine in the city under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2011.

2 injured in brawl

Two students of the GGDSD College, Sector 32, were injured following a clash on the college premises here this afternoon. The two students, belonging to the Student Organisation of Panjab University, entered into an argument with six other party members over the issue of selection of presidential candidate for the upcoming student council election.

50-m graffiti marks I-day

Eloping incident: Speaker not related to girl
Chandigarh, August 14
A day after the Chandigarh Police booked a youth, Amit Walia, his family and friends, for kidnapping a girl linked to a politician, Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Sharma today stated that he and his family were not related to the girl who had eloped.
