Minor abducted, raped for 2 months

A minor girl was abducted and raped repeatedly at several places before she managed to flee from a ‘brothel’ in Delhi.
Disclosing this at a press conference here on Monday, the victim, a Class X student, and her mother alleged that she was abducted by three car-borne persons when she was returning from school on a cycle.

Office can’t ask for extra formalities

The Judicial Branch of the Home Department, Punjab, has written to all registrars, marriages, to stick to the basic formalities required under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, and not to demand extra documents from applicants at the time of registration of marriages.
City all decked up for I-Day

Enthusiasm for the Independence Day (I-Day) was all pervasive in the city, as institutions, restaurants and outlets are all ready to celebrate the spirit of freedom.
Some of the stores have special discounts lined up, especially for the day. “This is the great day to celebrate the independence. We are offering 20 per cent extra discount for the day, so that residents can shop with freedom,” smiles Tinny, a store owner.

Rise in sale of Tricolours

Fluttering the Tricolour seemed to be adding to the fervour of independence on the day, as the city has been gearing up for the Independence Day. The city has witnessed a rise in the sale of flags, as residents are buying them for homes, offices, cars, etc. Flags and their symbols in the form of stickers, badges and miniature paper were popular among youngsters, according to a store owner in Ghumar

Celebrations undergo change

The industrial hub of Punjab has witnessed a drastic change in the Independence Day (I-Day) celebrations. Gone are the days when a city patriot like Bansi Lal Bigular played “bigul” on the banks of Raavi on December 31, 1929 when Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru hoisted the national flag and took the pledge of Purna Swaraj. Nowadays, none comes across such patriots.

Bribery case: Woman clerk shifted

A day after a woman clerk was caught taking a bribe of Rs 2,000 from a city resident, she has been transferred from the House Tax branch of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation. An inquiry has been ordered against her and if she is found guilty, she can face strict disciplinary action, including her suspension and even dismissal from job.
Confusion over online filing of trade details

Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari has said adhering to the orders of the Punjab and Hayrana High Court, a list of 'danga peerats', who have not been provided any rehabilitation gains in terms of property, has been prepared by the administration. The addresses of these persons have to be confirmed.
