Woman, paramour convicted of husband's murder
Mohali, June 2
The District Court here today held Neki Nalwa, along with her lover Himmat Singh, alias Brandy, guilty in the infamous murder case of her husband Sukhwinder Singh, who was an engineer in Quark City. The quantum of the sentence will be pronounced by the court on Monday.

Croc scare at Chhatbir Zoo
Banur, June 2
Alleged carelessness on part of Chhatbir Zoo officials led to the escape of two crocodiles from their enclosure, causing panic in the zoo, which had to be opened about an hour and a half late here today.

HUDA takes action against violators
Panchkula, June 2
Waking up from slumber, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) will resume residential buildings where commercial activities are being carried out by residents. HUDA officials had carried out a survey in the town and served notices on about 200 residents in various sectors.

Even though crores of rupees have been spent on the installation of tertiary treated water (TTW) to save 20 MGD drinking water in the city, there has been no improvement in the water supply in Chandigarh this year.

Heatwave to continue in region
Panchkula, June 2
There is no let-up in heatwave in the tricity region as the mercury hovered around 44 degrees Celsius, forcing the residents to remain indoors. The weather office has predicted that heatwave conditions would continue to prevail in the region as there would be no major change in the day and night temperatures.

Diarrhoea has broken out in Ambala, reportedly due to the supply of contaminated potable water to a number of areas. During the last one week, more than 250 patients of diarrhoea have been admitted to civil hospitals at Ambala City and Ambala Cantonment.

In a property dispute case, the Chief Judicial Magistrate, in his fact-finding report, has given a clean chit to Poonam Dilawari, the first woman station house officer (SHO) of Chandigarh. However, the case is still pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

HC declines to entertain pleas
Chandigarh, June 2
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has made it clear that issues like construction of an underpass and safe lanes for cyclists in the area around Panchkula’s Sector 12 are to be decided by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and other “authorities concerned” and not courts.

A total of 8,023 cases of different categories were disposed in the lok adalat, which was held at the district court complex here today. It was the last lok adalat in this district court complex in Sector 17, as the court complex is soon going to shift in Sector 43.

Five members of an gang of two-wheeler thieves has been busted by the Chandigarh police and 21 motor cycles have been recovered from them. A country-made pistol has also been recovered.

Boy commits suicide
Panchkula, June 2
Irked at his parents' advice to study, a young boy has allegedly committed suicide at the ITBP centre here. He hanged himself from an electricity pole. His body was found near a building under construction at the centre. It was lying on the floor, with a broken rope around his neck.

Fraud accused, wife flee India
Mohali, June 2
Vikas Malhotra, who has duped the CGC Group of Colleges at Landran of Rs 2 crore, has reportedly left the country with his family. Mohali SSP GS Bhullar said though confirmation was awaited, reports and investigations indicated that Vikas and his family had left the country.

A pedestrian was killed in a road accident after it was hit by a vehicle near Colony Number 5. According to the police, Suresh Pal, who was walking down the road near Shiv Shakti Mandir, Colony Number 5, was hit by a recklessly driven vehicle yesterday.
