Thermal plant generates record power in May:
The Guru Hargobind Thermal Plant (GHTP) at Lehra Mohabbat near here had generated record 6,902 lakh units of electricity last month.A spokesman said the generation was 100.84 per cent of the plant load factor. Had there been no break down, the GHTP would have generated 7,108 lakh units at the plant load factor of 103.84 per cent.

Lecture:
Ragini Chander Shekhar, winner of the Lakshmi Viswanathan Endowment Award, 2002, and the Yuva Puraskar in 2009 from the Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY), will visit Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, on Sunday for a special lecture demonstration on Bharatnatyam from 7pm onwards at the Sobha Singh Auditorium of the medical college. Disclosing this here on Saturday, Dr Anil Chauhan, Principal of the medical college, said students from various institutions would attend the programme.

Tipper driver killed: One person was killed when a tipper while being reversed rolled down into an over 500-m-deep gorge at Talakra under Shahpur police station on Friday evening, the police said here on Saturday. The police said Jagdish Chand of Merra Fatak, who was driving the tipper, died on the spot.

CM’s directive to officials:
Chief Minister PK Dhumal on Saturday directed officials to view atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes seriously so that the errant were punished and there was deterrence against discrimination against these communities. He was addressing the state-level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting held here under his chairmanship on Saturday.

Tourism conclave: Chief Minister PK Dhumal will inaugurate a tourism conclave and Shimla mega mart here on Sunday with participants from several countries likely to attend the meet. Dr Arun Kumar, Director, Tourism, said on Saturday that the tourism industry in the state had been given high priority and the government had developed an appropriate infrastructure for its development. As many as 32 Pakistani exhibitors will be showcasing their products at the Shimla mega mart.

Limit enhanced: The state government has enhanced the limit of the creamy layer from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 4.5 lakh so that more beneficiaries of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) can avail of the benefit of the scheme meant for them. Chief Minister PK Dhumal said this while presiding over the seventh meeting of the HP OBC Welfare Board, held here on Saturday.
