The police tried to dodge them till 5 pm but crowd did not disperse and Rizvi was produced amid heavy police force. She had absconded to Saharanpur yesterday and was traced by the police late in the evening. Many complainant were accusing the police for being hand in glove with the accused. SSP Neeru Garg said, “The housewives want police to recover their money from the accused. The police tried to interrogate her to see if the lost money could be recovered, but she did not divulge much in this direction.” Rizvi, however, refused to admit that she absconded. She said she informed the police from Saharanpur saying that she had gone there to get treatment for her ailing husband. She said she did not know how many people deposited money with her. “If I have been accused, so should 80 agents who wooed housewives in depositing money with us and got 6 per cent commission in return. Thousands of people got associated with us as they got 25 per cent increase on their principle amount. The agents had given me in writing that they would help in returning money to the people from July 15 but they backed out. Now I am completely bankrupt and not in a position to return money.” SP, Rural, GS Dhyani, said Rizvi started a candle company for chit fund for which she should have taken prior permission from the RBI. She wanted to become rich quickly and became a puppet in the hands of agents. Her only daughter, class XI student, was involved in signing many documents. Her husband, Mushir Hassan, whom Rizvi now wanted to pass buck, is a patient of epilepsy and could be let off if he was not actively involved, he said. He said the agents who were involved would also be tried under the law. To unravel the intricacies of this complex scam, he said the police would engage finance experts. |
Section offices at Sectt lack space
Dehradun, May 22 Built at the cost of Rs 1crore, the new offices have not found favour with the section officers who were on a lookout for more spacious place. has only compounded the problems. "The department should have conducive environment because several physically challenged come to the offices
for the routine work. We continue to face the scarcity of space and have not been able to stack all office files," said an official
from the Social Welfare Department. After the construction of the Secretariat, the paucity of space has been a persistent problem and from time to time the estate department has constructed temporary offices but these have not provided lasting solution to the problems of certain section offices with mountains of files. "The advisory departments dealing with law and order, personnel, rule and regulation sections are occupying spacious offices while other departments with heavy file work continue to work from small offices," said an official from the Department of Urban Development. |

Need for blood bank at Coronation Hospital
Dehradun, May 22 The hospital relies on the Doon Hospital blood bank for the requirement of blood. With the setting up of a cardiology centre, there is a pressure on the hospital authorities to set up a blood bank at the Coronation Hospital. “We will soon start conducting bypass surgeries at the cardiology centre and the requirement of blood would increase manifold. As a part of temporary arrangement, we have tied up with the IMA Blood Bank,” said Dr Yogender Singh, cardiologist, Fortis Heart Centre. Similarly, the nephrology centre functioning at the Coronation Hospital too requires blood but on rare occasions. “Only in extreme conditions, when the patient is anaemic, the blood transfusion is needed for patients who require dialysis. In such a situation, prior intimation is given to the patient but a functional blood bank at the hospital could be of big help. But as a policy, we avoid blood transfusions,” said Dr PC Wohra, nephrologists in Apollo hospital. The Health Department plans to strengthen the Coronation Hospital as a specialty centre with neurology centre also coming up the hospital. “The requirement for a blood bank has been conveyed to the Centre, but so far our request has not been met. Once the hospital picks up the pace, we would require a blood bank. Whenever surgical operations are conducted at the hospital, the blood is usually procured from the Doon Hospital Blood Bank,” said Dr RS Aswal, CMS, Coronation Hospital. While the government is planning to set up 10 blood storage centres in support of the National Aids Control Organisation and Uttarakhand State Aids Control Society, the proposal to set up blood banks in district hospitals is still pending. |
