Notorious criminal arrested:
A notorious criminal, Billa, was arrested by the local police here today. Billa, a resident of Gaazinangal village, was wanted in many criminal cases, including murder and attempt to murder. He was remanded in police custody for further investigation.

One held for attempt to murder
: The police today arrested a gangster, identified as Paramjit Singh of Aartti Mohalla, under the charges of attempt to murder and ransacking a sweetshop in the local Moti Bazaar.

Ram Bagh suicides: Woman identified:
The police has identified the woman who was found dead at Ram Bagh on Sunday as Balbir Kaur of the Bal Kalan village. She along with Kulwinder Singh of the same village had allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance. The families of the deceased have denied any knowledge of an affair between the two. Kulwinder had a job in the private sector while Balbir was a domestic help. Investigating officer Parveen Kumar said nobody knew about their relationship. — TNS

Irregularities detected in Ajnala Civil Hospital:  A team of the Vigilance Bureau conducted a raid at Civil Hospital, Ajnala, late last evening and detected some irregularities there. SSP, Vigilance, Raj Jeet Singh said the VB found an expired injection and an incomplete emergency kit at the hospital. The team also checked the attendance register at the hospital. The SSP said a report has been sent to the state authorities. The inspection which began at 10pm went on till midnight. The VB team was accompanied by child specialist at the Civil Hospital Dr Naresh Sharma.

Man dies after getting trapped in sawmill:
A worker was killed at a sawmill in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, the police said today. “Zaffar Ahmad Mir (45) got trapped in the motor belt of the sawmill at Drangbal. He died on the spot,” the police said. Zaffar’s body was handed over to his family for last rites.
