New Delhi, April 26
A senior photo journalist of The Tribune, Sayeed Ahmed, was thrashed by a head constable of Shakarpur police station in East Delhi this morning. The photo journalist was questioning about a case.

When he made a complaint against the head constable, the police refused to take any action. It just accepted a complaint, making a daily diary entry after the journalist informed senior police officials.

The policeman first dragged him, then slapped him a couple of times and finally threw him outside the police station because he questioned him as to why the head constable had brought his two uncles to the police station in a case which is sub judice.

When Ahmed again returned to the police station to make a complaint against the head constable -- Devendra Singh -- no one allowed him to meet the station house officer.

The duty officer and other police staff refused to book a complaint against the head constable. When the journalist informed the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Gandhi Nagar, the police staff at Shakarpur police station agreed to accept a written complaint. They made a daily diary entry and reluctantly took him to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital to conduct a medical examination. "The doctors at the hospital asked him to come on Friday for the MLC," Ahmed said.

"The station house officer is investigating. Appropriate action will be taken against the policeman if he is found guilty," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Prabhakar.
