RWAs appeal to MPs to defer MCD
trifurcation
New Delhi, April 21 A group of several Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) - People's Action - has appealed to all the Members of Parliament from Delhi to review the trifurcation of Delhi. Writing to all the MPs in a detailed letter outlining the reasons for this appeal Ashutosh Dikshit, one of the members of the group, said that the residents of Delhi were already confused by the multiplicity of the civic authority in Delhi and would now be further harassed by the complexity of jurisdiction. "Despite the failings of the BJP-led MCD, the voters of Delhi had rejected this trifurcation, which is single handedly pursued by the Chief Minister despite opposition from her party," he said. Atul Goyal, convener of the apex body of RWAs, URJA, said that it was a matter of concern that the city was unable to offer a Mayor in the international forums and instead wanted a foreign country to decide on the Mayor from the dissected part of the city. "There was no logic to dividing the MCD into three parts and only one Mayor should represent the city. Delegations from the RWAs are seeking appointments with the MPs, said Goyal. Another URJA member Wing Commander JS Chadda, asking for a reversal of this move, said that Delhi is the capital of the country and reflects the nation's stature and pride, historically and socially, and that other large metropolises worldwide have not reduced themselves in this manner. |

The same is the condition of vegetables producers. Today the milk producers staged a protest against profiteering and adulteration by the dairies. Man poisons wife for bearing girl
New Delhi, April 21 Ishak Parveen, a resident of Lohari Gate in North Delhi, was admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital on Thursday night by her husband Javed Tariq who informed the police that she had consumed poison. Her condition was critical then and she was under observation in intensive care unit (ICU). Victim's father Malik Sikandar alleged in his complaint to the police that on February 26, Parveen became mother of a girl child and since then she was being assaulted by Tariq. Sikandar has lodged a police complaint against Tariq alleging that he poisoned her and fled leaving her in the hospital. Victim's mother Nikhat Hayat told the police that from the very first day after her daughter married Tariq, the family members pressurised her for a son but when she gave birth to a girl child, they started torturing her. The police on the complaint filed by Sikandar, registered a case under Sections 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 498 (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code. A police official said that while they could not take Parveen's statement as she never regained consciousness, they were trying to nab her absconding husband on the basis of her father's complaint. |
