Tata 407 rams into stationary truck

Wedding celebrations turned sour after a pick-up truck ferrying 11 members of a marriage party rammed into a stationary truck near a resort on the Alamgir road here today.

Eye on polls, councillors take up development works

As the Municipal Corporation (MC) elections are nearing, councillors have started beautifying their respective wards. In several parts of the city, MC officials can be seen re-carpeting roads, installing direction boards and tube wells, besides carrying out other development works.

Desks in schools and colleges often turn into canvas for students to doodle, engrave and write. Students at SCD Government College have turned desks and walls into “reading material”. Some sneak in examination rooms some time before the examination and jot down points on desks for copying during the exam.

MLA, councillor spar over tube well inauguration
Ludhiana, April 21
An Akali MLA and a councillor are at loggerheads over the inauguration of a tube well in the New Shakti Nagar area. MLA Ranjit Singh Dhillon had inaugurated the tube well yesterday while councillor Daljit Singh Grewal inaugurated the same tube well in the evening.

2 held for duping youths
Ludhiana, April 21
The police has arrested two persons for allegedly duping residents of money on the pretext of providing them with government jobs. The accused, identified as Nirmal Singh and Hardeep Singh, were running Jan Seva Society in the Shimlapuri area.

The Punjab state tops in per-cow milk production in the country; however, the increased milk production has predisposed the animals to certain diseases called production diseases. Related to increased production, in the past few years, declining fertility of the livestock has infact, become a matter of concern among the state dairy farmers.

Students take part in Earth Day celebrations at GMT Public School at Ludhiana on Saturday.
Ludhiana: A 'Green Walk' was organised by Don Bosco Global School (DBGS), Ludhiana, to celebrate the Earth Day. After a speech by Dr TS Nagpal, the executive director of the school, the students expressed their thoughts on the topic of environment. A 'nukkad natak' was also presented depicting the need to save water.

Councillor of CPI joins BJP camp

As the Municipal Corporation elections are nearing, the politics of poaching has started among different parties. A fortnight after CPI councillor Sarabjit Lal joined the BJP, now BSP leader Varinder Sharma, who had contested the last MC elections on the BSP ticket, has joined the BJP. He joined the party in the presence of BJP district president and senior deputy mayor Parveen Bansal yesterday.

A meeting of the Punjab Tax Bar Association was held here today during which Ashok Juneja was unanimously elected president of the association for three years. He has already served as chairman of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust. Harish Rai Dhanda was elected patron, KL Goyal chairman, Anil Sareen vice-chairman, BR Kaushal secretary-general and Rajpal Gupta and HR Saldi vice-presidents.

High drama witnessed over leader’s bus

High drama was witnessed near the Bharat Nagar chowk here today when a wrongly parked bus belonging to the transport company run by a political bigwig was impounded.

2 jail inmates die at Civil Hospital

Two inmates, who were lodged in Central Jail, died in the Civil Hospital after their condition worsened, here today. The deceased have been identified as Bhupinder Singh (55) and Waryam Singh (55)
.
