Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said that the ancestral home of the late Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna, his father, would be converted into a museum in which all documents and articles related to him would be collected and preserved. This museum would work as an inspiration for coming generations.

Release of census model draft publication on May 15

The supervisory model draft publication as part of the Socio Economic and Caste Census 2011 would be released on May 15 by the Department of Rural Department. The model draft publication is released before the final draft. So far the census has covered 99 percentage of the population in the state.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said that the ancestral home of the late Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna, his father, would be converted into a museum in which all documents and articles related to him would be collected and preserved. This museum would work as an inspiration for coming generations.

The Chief Minister made the announcement at a programme organised in memory of Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna on the occasion of his 93rd birth anniversary at his ancestral village Budhani in Pauri Garhwal district today. The Chief Minister also unveiled the statue of Bahuguna and paid floral tributes at the statue. He instructed the officers to construct a road up to the village from the main road.

Chief Minister Bahuguna also lent a patient hearing to the problems of the people of Budhani and issued instructions to the officers to provide solutions to their problems on the spot. Addressing a meeting held at his ancestral house, Chief Minister Bahuguna said that his priority was to enhance medical and education facilities in the remote villages of the state so that migration could be checked. Looking into the natural beauty of the area, he announced to develop the area as a tourist hub so that more employment opportunities could be generated for the local people. He also advocated encouraging horticulture and fruit farming in the hill region.

Stating that the power sector was the main resource of revenue generation for the state, he rued that the previous BJP government did nothing in this direction.

Chief Minister Bahuguna recalled his memories of his grandfather and father in the village and said that he was here as a son of the soil. He said that the political intention of his father was always to serve the people and never to rule them. He said that he would also follow in the footsteps of his father in serving people and the state.

Bahuguna also announced to form a committee headed by Harak Singh Rawat, Rudraprayag Congress MLA, for setting up of a museum in the name of late Bahuguna with one of his family members as a committee member.

Harak Singh Rawat, speaking on the occasion, said that it was a fortunate day for all that the son of late Bahuguna had visited the village as a Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.

He said that following the principles of late Bahuguna, Uttarakhand would be developed into a model state. He recalled that late Bahuguna had understood the problems of hill regions, hence, he constituted separate ministry for the development of hill regions which later laid the foundations of a separate state. "Uttarkahand is a gift given by him and the Congress Government would develop it as per the dreams of statehood agitationists," he added.

Rawat also drew the attention of the Chief Minister towards Dhikalgaon Pumping Project sanctioned in 2006. Meanwhile, area MLA Ganesh Godiyal also apprised the Chief Minister about various problems existing in the area. Also present on the occasion were Pauri Nagarpalika, Chairman, Rajendra Tamta, Congress leaders Yogendra Khanduri and Govind Singh Rawat.

DGP Pant meets 157 IPS officers

Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Vijay Raghav Pant met 157 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of year 2011 batch today who have come from National Police Academy (NPA), Hyderabad, on a visit to the state.

Pant apprised them about the peculiarities of the state and challenges faced by state police. Former DGP JS Pandey, who is now member of the state reformation centre gave a representation on the theme of constitutional provisions and modus operandi of state police in today's times in the face of people's expectations.

The delegation will visit various important sites such as FIR, IMA, ITBP, IAS Academy in Mussoorie during their visit to the state till April 28.

The interaction session was begun by DGP, Administration, SK Bhagat, with a welcome note and ended by DGP, CID, BS Sidhu.

The session was conducted by Inspector General of Police, PAC, Deepam Seth.

On this occasion, IG Ram Singh Meena, DIG Abhinav Kumar, GN Goswami, Amit Sinha and Sanjay Gunjyal, Superintendent of Police (SP) Satish Kumar Shukla, SSP Neeru Garg and Deputy Director, NPA, Hyderabad, Praveen Sinha, and Additional Director Vipul Kumar were also present.

My father remained in touch with grassroot party workers: CM

Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said today that his father the late Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna gave due importance to the grassroot party workers, irrespective of his high political position.

Addressing the 93rd birth anniversary programme of the late UP Chief Minister HN Bahuguna organised by the Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Smriti Samiti in Dehradun today, the CM said his father was gave due importance to the party workers. “My father firmly believed the grassroot workers were the backbone of any party and thus he always remained in touch with them,” he said.

Recalling the contribution made by his father in the betterment of the country, he said despite a long 50 years of political career, his father remained just nine years in power but this did not deter him from working for the downtrodden and minorities.

Bahuguna said his father had clear vision on the development of hill areas.“He always believed in maintaining harmony and benevolence with even his adversaries,” the CM said, adding that his father was of the opinion that a leader was successful in the real sense only if he is easily accessible for the common man.

Attacking communalism, Bahuguna said people who divide society on the basis of caste, religion and community were not well-wishers of the state. He said though his birthplace was Allahabad, his ‘karmbhumi’ was Uttarakhand.

Uttarkhand Irrigation Minister Yashpal Arya said Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna was a man of vision and a good policy maker. He said Bahuguna always worked to bring minorities into the mainstream of society. “He was well-aware of the problems existing in the hill areas. We are sure that now incumbent Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna will realise the dreams seen by his father and take the state towards prosperity,” Arya said.

Senior Congress leader and former Opposition leader Harak Singh Rawat recalled the late Bahuguna frequenting his school at Devalgarh in Garhwal. Uttarakhand Congress vice-president Suryakant Dhasmana, who coordinated the programme, recalled HN Bahuguna’s contribution towards strengthening the secularism of the country. “Bahuguna was known as tallest secular leader of the country in his times,” he pointed out. He recalled his association as young politician with HN Bahuguna.

Distributes study material to Kanya Vidyala students

Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna distributed study material to students of Arsh Gurukul Kanya Vidyala on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna today. The function was organised by the Sikh Mahasabha.

On the occasion, Bahuguna announced to give a financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the school.

Former Cabinet minister Tilak Raj Behar, president, Sikh Mahasabha, Harpal Singh Sethi and Dr Ved Prakash Gupta were present on the occasion.

Release of census model draft publication on May 15

Dehradun, April 25
The supervisory model draft publication as part of the Socio Economic and Caste Census 2011 would be released on May 15 by the Department of Rural Department. The model draft publication is released before the final draft. So far the census has covered 99 percentage of the population in the state.

The census that was launched on December 15, 2011, in the state and was stopped midway after the model code of conduct was imposed in the state for the February 2012 Assembly elections is now nearing completion. On June 15, objections and redressal of the grievances would be undertaken on the basis of the draft publication, and on June 30, the census would come to an end.

The Department of Rural Development is the nodal agency for the Socio Economic and Caste Census in Uttarakhand. IIT Palaghat (Kerala) through Karvy and Micro consultants has been assigned the job of carrying out Socio Economic and Caste Census in Uttarakhand.

According to the norms of the Socio Economic and Caste Census, persons with a monthly income of Rs 10,000 would be clubbed under the APL category. — TNS

Two more IPS officers shifted

Inspector General of Police, Kumoan Range, RS Meena has now been appointed as IG, Crime and Law & Order. Commandant, 46th Vahini PAC, Rudrapur, Vimla Gunjyal has been transferred as Superintendent of Police, Pauri.

CM assures industry of land for projects

Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna has said the industry is welcome in the state and urged the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to facilitate investments.

A CII delegation led by Rakesh Aggarwal, Chairman of the CII Uttarakhand State Council, called on the CM to discuss various issues related to the development of the state. Bahuguna assured the industrialists of adequate availability of land for projects and all support for obtaining necessary clearances. Responding to the CII suggestion on strengthening skill development initiatives in the state, the CM consented to reactivating the State Steering Committee on technical education.

The delegation also discussed key policy issues, including the revision of the Industrial Policy 2003 and the Tourism Policy 2001, linking of Uttarakhand to the proposed Eastern Freight Corridor that would lead to a significant reduction in transportation costs for the industry in and around Haridwar and also congestion on the Delhi-Haridwar highway. It also discussed simplification of the land use conversion process, enactment of the industries facilitation Act for providing a regulatory framework for the single window system in the state and reviving the provisions of deemed approvals for select project clearances.

Workshop on online technology

Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Technology and Science today organised a workshop on online technology. Experts from IIT, Mumbai, delivered lectures during the workshop.

Director, Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Technology and Science, Prof SP Thapliyal, said the institute apart from laying stress on course curriculum also informed the students about the latest in the industry. Institute's Principal Rama Sushil said the students must have good knowledge of software technology. She said the workshop was very important for the students to get the latest in computer technology.

TPS Rawat slams BJP, Congress

President of the Uttarakhand Raksha Morcha TPS Rawat has slammed the BJP and the Congress for corruption.

He said the way the Srikot bridge collapsed before being commissioned and another bridge at Roorkee during the tenure 
of former Chief Minister BC Khanduri proved the connivance of contractors and influential people of the state government.

He did not spare the Congress either and gave the example of bridge over the Gola river which also crumbled within four years of its construction during the tenure of previous Congress government.

He pulled up both the parties for using liquor and money lavishly to woo the voters. He also castigated Team Anna, saying that the two leaders whom they called corrupt won in Assembly elections and the one whom they termed honest, lost.

He said their party was now fully engaged in spreading awareness among people to give a clear mandate in the elections next time.
