Rain hits wheat procurement in Sirsa, Fatehabad
Sirsa, April 17 The agencies purchased 12,815 metric tonne (MT) of wheat in various grain markets of Sirsa on the first day of procurement yesterday. In Fatehabad, 7,387 MT of wheat was procured from various grain markets and purchase centres of the district. However, before the agencies could lift their crop from the markets, rain dampened the heaps of wheat in the grain markets. “Our heaps of wheat lying in the open have been severely dampened and it will take at least two days to dry up,” said Saudagar Singh, a farmer in the Sirsa grain market. Ram Singh, the District Food and Supplies Controller, Sirsa, said the procurement agencies could not purchase the crop that did not comply with the norms for moisture content. The inclement weather had not only hit procurement in the grain markets, but it has also delayed harvesting, where it is still pending. J Ganeshan, Deputy Commissioner, Sirsa, appealed to farmers to bring their crop after drying it properly so that it complied with the moisture norms of the procurement agencies. He assured the farmers that they would not have to face any harassment in the grain markets if their crop complied with the moisture norms. “The agencies purchased wheat with moisture content up 12 per cent and any lot containing more than this has to be rejected,” said Rajbir Singh, District Food and Supplies Controller, Fatehabad. If the weather plays spoilsport in the coming days, the procurement process will be hit further resulting in consi derable inconvenience besides financial losses to farmers. |
Surjewala for relief of
Rs 5,000 per acre
Chandigarh, April 17 Addressing a press conference, Surjewala said the squall accompanied by rain and a persistent drizzle over the last week had not only led to an increase in the moisture level of the standing wheat crop but also damaged it. He demanded that the Prime Minister and the Agriculture Minister should intervene and announce compensation for the squall-hit crop. |
CM seeks 3 IRBs, one mahila battalion
Chandigarh, April 17 Speaking at the conference of Chief Ministers on internal security in Delhi , Hooda said the apprehension that the NCTC would undermine the federal structure was wrong. He was of the view that the intention was not to bypass the states or to ignore them, but to strike at the terrorists before they could inflict any harm . “Any suspicion in this regard can be addressed by way of well-defined standard operating procedures,” he said. Hooda said the NCTC would work as an integrating organisation, responsible for collecting and analysing intelligence from states and launching effective offensive against terrorists. “Terrorists do not respect any territorial boundaries. But we continue to limit our effectiveness due to certain mistaken notions.” He said terrorism could shatter prosperity and inclusive growth. It was, therefore, necessary that all states should lend support to the creation of a powerful instrument to deal with terrorism. The unprecedented growth of Gurgaon, Faridabad, Bahadurgarh, Sonepat and other towns in the NCR had placed tremendous responsibility on the state police . The strategic importance of the state had made Haryana vulnerable to disruptive attempts by subversive elements. Therefore, it was necessary that Haryana should be placed in category ”A” with 100 per cent Central grant-in-aid under the modernisation of police forces scheme. Hooda demanded three India Reserve Battalions and one mahila battalion to strengthen the law and order machinery in the NCR districts. |
Ajay Chautala takes Chief Minister to task
Hisar, April 17 However, the seven-year Hooda rule had seen even the existing infrastructure crumbling everywhere, Chautala claimed. Roads were in a bad condition. There was an acute shortage of power and water. Law and order had broken down completely. Corruption had touched an all-time high and the state was ruled by an unbridled bureaucracy, the INLD leader said . No wonder that the people of Haryana were feeling cheated and hapless under these circumstances. He said with ruling party leaders being overshadowed by bureaucrats, the common man had nowhere to go to seek solace. Chautala said Hooda had promised voters of the Hisar Lok Sabha seat during the bypoll a few months ago that he would unleash a revolutionary plan to develop Hisar. However, not a brick had been laid in the district after the bypoll and the Chief Minister refused to meet people who wanted an explanation from him, Chautala claimed. He said Hisar would get its equitable share of development funds when the INLD came to power in Haryana. |
Backs INSO agitation over MDU affairs
Rohtak, April 17 INLD Secretary-General Ajay Singh Chautala, who took part in a dharna outside the office of the MDU Vice-Chancellor here today, demanded a probe into the affairs of the varsity by a judge of the Supreme Court. Earlier, Chautala and hundreds of party activists sat in dharna for about an hour outside the VC’s office. Chautala also sought an independent probe into the suicide by five girl students of Bhagat Phool Singh University in Sonepat. |
Row over recruitment process of linemen
Rohtak, April 17 The union, which staged demonstrations recently, has asked the state government to withdraw the condition of cut-off percentage imposed after inviting applications. “The authorities, in violation of all norms, have notified that only those candidates (general) who have secured at least 73 per cent marks in ITI diploma are eligible to appear in the interview for selection, though earlier it was advertised that all candidates who were matriculates and had an ITI diploma in the relevant subject would have to appear in the written test and the candidates who clear the exam would be called for an interview,” said a spokesperson of the AHPCWU, who claimed that any change in the rules for selection at a later stage would be against natural justice and constitute violation of norms. “This step appeared to have been taken by certain officials who perhaps wanted to cut down the number of applicants,” he said, adding that it would result in making a large number of applicants especially those from rural areas and those who had already been working as ALMs with the department on contract basis ineligible as a majority of the candidates do not fulfil the norm. It is reported that as many as 40,000 candidates had applied against about 1,000 posts of ALM advertised in April last year by the Staff Selection Commission of the state. The total number of posts advertised were, however, revised to 4,131 later. “But owing to a change in the selection process, as many as 30,000 candidates will become ineligible for such posts as now the authorities have announced that only those candidates who had secured not less than 65 per cent marks (SC category), 72 per cent (Backward Classes) and 73 per cent (general), will now be called for interview, thus leaving a majority of the candidates ineligible, he said. Demanding at least 50 per cent reservation for the candidates already working with the department, the union has asked the government to withdraw the cut-off list order immediately or face an agitation. |
