Hospital opens EECP therapy centre: Dr Gyan Boparai Memorial Dukhnivaran Hospital has opened enhanced external counterpulsation (EECP) therapy centre in Amritsar. Dr RPS Boparai of the hospital said, “The therapy will be provided free of cost to extremely poor patients. Also there will be 50 per cent concession for the needy.”

Convener elected
: The Punjab Roadways Employees Action Committee unanimously elected Amrik Singh Gill as its convener during its meeting at Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Inter-State Bus Terminal. Gill said settling the pending issue of promises made by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in 2009 with the Punjab Roadways employees would be his priority.

CHANDIGARH

Theft at Mani Majra: Theft worth lakhs of rupees was reported from a house in Mauli Complex, Mani Majra last night. The complainant, Hukum Singh, told the police that someone broke into his house last night by breaking open the bolt on the door. All the residents of the house were asleep when the theft took place. The thieves opened the almirah and fled with all the cash that was kept inside. The police has registered a case.

Bhadana acting chief of HPSC:
Haryana Governor Jagannath Pahadia has asked Manvir Singh Bhadana, Member, Haryana Public Service Commission, to perform the duties of the Chariman of the commission till further orders following the retirement of the Chairman, Lt Gen DP Vats (retd). 

Fatehabad
Shatabdi halt:
The Union Railway Ministry has connected Tohana in Fatehabad with New Delhi and Ludhiana through Shatabdi Express train. The Ludhiana-Delhi Shatabdi runs four days of the week - Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. The train made its first halt at Tohana on Monday.

Silver jubilee
: The two-day silver jubilee function of DAV Public School, Kurukshetra, concluded here on Monday with students performing a colourful cultural programme. Haryana Speaker Kuldeep Sharma, who was the chief guest, lauded DAV institutions for serving society by imparting quality education . The celebrations were inaugurated by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday who recalled the role played by DAV institutions in pre-Independence days. Even after Independence, DAV institutions were doing splendid work in the field of education, he added.

2 killed in mishap
: Two youths riding a motorcycle were killed when their vehicle collided with a Canter near Dhandoor village, about 10 km from here, on Tuesday. They were identified as Harish of Mothsara village of this district and Jaiyan of Alwar in Rajasthan. The Canter driver fled after the mishap. 

Youth stabbed: A member of a marriage party was stabbed by a youth on the dance floor on a marriage function of his friend, Anil, on Sunday. While he was dancing with other friends, he was stabbed repeatedly in the chest and the stomach by a youth who managed to escape. He was rushed to the General Hospital in a serious condition.

Convocation
: A convocation ceremony of DAV Mahila College, Kosli, was held here on Monday. The degrees were conferred on 170 graduates of the college. Prof Ranbir Singh, Dean of Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, was the chief guest. He exhorted students to put in more assiduous efforts to make a mark in life. Principal Dr Jai Singh highlighted achievements of the college in his annual report.

Another body found in Naini Lake:
Yet another body surfaced on the Naini Lake in Nainital on Tuesday. Morning walkers found the body near the Pashan Devi temple. The deceased is yet to be identified. The police say that he was in his late twenties. It is being assumed that he might have died while trying to swim in the lake. No injury marks have been found on his body. 

Schoolboy crushed to death: A schoolboy was crushed to death by a speeding dumper in Rudrapur on Monday. The incident took place when 12-year-old Anam of Malsa was on his way to school. He died on the spot. The accused fled from the spot after the accident. Demanding the arrest of the dumper driver, residents of the area held a protest.

Youth killed in mishap: A youth was killed when his bicycle was hit by a truck from behind in Bazpur on Monday. The deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Arif of Kannaura village.The truck driver fled from the spot leaving his vehicle behind. Arif was taken to a hospital but he died on the way. Efforts are on to arrest the truck driver.

Motorcyclist hit by vehicle, dies: A motorcycle-borne youth lost his life when he was hit by a vehicle in Kashipur. The youth has been identified as Raju Maal of Shiv Colony in Ramnagar. He was returning home on late Monday evening when he was hit by a vehicle near Dhauri village. He was taken to a hospital but he succumbed to his injuries.

Plea to hold medical camps: Residents of the Dhurafat area of Bageshwar have approached the district administration for organising medical camps in the villages to check the spread of diarrhoea. They said one 72-year-old Narayan Singh of Baudi village died after bouts of vomiting and an upset stomach. They pointed out that even the road heads where mobile dispensaries come are not easily reachable. The villagers have sought that camps be held in remote villages and medicines be provided to the affected people.
