Jalandhar, December 16 The incident took place at 8.05 pm. The victim has been identified as Ishant, a resident of Udham Singh Nagar, who sustained an injury at his left shoulder. Ishant’s brother Sehaj alleged that a few days ago, Ishant had a brawl with two youths - Gaurav and Rajat - at their college. He said this evening, Rajat’s father called him at his shop near Nakodar Chowk to strike a compromise between them. The moment he and his brother Ishant entered the shop, Rajat and his father Bobby Sikka started abusing them and even slapped him. “When I protested, Rajat’s father trained gun at Ishant, but fortunately when shot was fired, it hit at Ishant’s left shoulder,” Sehaj alleged. |

Youth Congress gets new leaders
Jalandhar, December 16 Polling had begun yesterday for a few constituencies. Today, elections were conducted in Jalandhar Central and Cantonment constituencies, Parliamentary constituency and state president. Youth gathered outside the bhawan through out the day. In the evening, after the declaration of the results, the winners moved in cavalcade along with dhols beats. The winners announced till the filing of story were: Adampur - Rakesh Kumar, Shahkot - Gurjit Singh, Phillaur - Jaspreet Singh, Jalandhar West- Sachin Sareen, Jalandhar North - Puneet Wadhera, Jalandhar Central - Saket Shetty and Nakodar - Rajneesh, Kartarpur - Mandip and Jalandhar Cantonment - Gagan. Amritsar: Vikas Soni, nephew of sitting MLA from Amritsar west assembly constituency, Om Parkash Soni, has been declared the winner in the Youth Congress election on the Lok Sabha pattern. He defeated his nearest rival Damandeep Singh by about 125 votes. Damandeep has been elected as vice-president of the Youth Congress. Gurdev Singh and Harsimranjit Kaur, have been nominated as general secretaries till the filing of report. Soni secured 973 votes while Damandeep got 848 votes. The results were announced today evening by Anant Dahiya, Youth Congress leader from Haryana, who was
appointed as Lok Sabha returning officer for the elections here. Gurdaspur: Barinder Singh Pahra became the Gurdaspur Assembly constituency Youth Congress President when he beat his rival Bhagel Singh by 131 votes in a hotly contested election, the results of which were declared today evening. Out of 498 votes, Pahra bagged 298 while Bhagel Singh managed to garner 167 votes. |

2 vehicle thieves nabbed
Amritsar, December 16 The police recovered two cars - a Swift Desire and a Ford Fiesta - from them. The thieves were identified as Rajbir Singh of Chowk Baba Bhori Wala and Satwant Singh of Mahan village. A case has been registered against them at the D-Division police station. While giving details, the police authorities said following a tip-off the police launched a massive operation to catch the duo. Rajbir and Satwant Singh tried to escape from the spot during checking, however, they were overpowered by the police. They were produced in a local court, which remanded them in police custody.
