CM lays stone of college
Pathankot, November 27 Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said this while laying the foundation stone of Guru Nanak Dev (GND) University College at Narot Jaimal Singh town, the most backward part of the Pathankot district, here today. Badal said the government was committed to spread quality education in the state. He said Rs 10.50 crore would be spent on the construction of the GND University College. The government had opened six new universities, 17 degree colleges and 52 engineering colleges in the state. These institutions would provide higher education to students. He also laid the foundation stone of the widening of the Bamial-Khojki Chak road, to be done at the cost of Rs 4.50 crore. He also laid the foundation of a pantoon bridge, to be constructed at a cost of Rs 1.81 crore, for connecting Bamial Palah to Skol village. He said the government had a plan to spent Rs 17,000 crore on the construction of new main and link roads and repair of old roads. The Chief Minister said the government also mooted a plan to renovate hospitals and dispensaries in the rural areas at a cost of Rs 300 crore. Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University AS Brar and Bishamber Dass, MLA, were present. |

Silver ornaments looted from shop
Jalandhar November 27 Pawan Kumar, owner of Pawan Jewellers, said he closed his shop at 8.30 last night. This morning, someone told him on the phone that locks of his shop were lying broken. “When I reached the spot, I found the whole shop ransacked and one safe broken, from which thieves took away silver ornaments. Thieves
also tried to break another safe with a gas cutter,” Pawan said. A case has been
registered.

Mechanic injured in acid attack, one held
Batala, November 27 The mechanic, Kirpal Singh, was asked on the telephone to come to Abdal village to repair a tempo. He was going on his motorcycle to the village when two persons threw a glass of acid on his face injuring him seriously. He was referred to Amritsar hospital by the Civil Hospital, Dera Baba Nanak. The passersby caught one miscreant, Balwinder Singh, resident of Rattar Abdal village, and handed him over to the police. While talking to mediapersons here today, Paramjit Singh, SHO, Dera Baba Nanak, stated that the motive behind the attack was old enmity. A case was registered under Section 326 of the
IPC.
