3 killed, 3 hurt in road mishaps

Two persons, including a toddler, died and three others were injured in two separate road accidents on National Highway No 15 near Thathian Mahantan village here this morning.

A one-and-a-half-year-old girl, Jashanpreet, was killed, while her grandfather Baldev Singh, grandmother Narinder kaur and her elder sister Sehajpreet Kaur were injured when a mini-truck hit the three-wheeler they were traveling in at Patti crossing. Baldev Singh and Narinder Kaur were referred to a hospital in Amritsar.

In another mishap, 60-year-old Didar Singh, a resident of Thathian Mahantan village was crushed under a mini-bus (PB-02, BN-9813). The victim was crossing the road to go to his fields when the bus hit him, killing him on the spot.

The Sarhali police has registered a case under Section 304-A and 279 IPC against the driver of the bus who managed to escape from the spot.

Hoshiarpur: Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Naraingarh, died on the spot when a speeding truck (PB-13W-9833) hit the motorcycle he was riding on Friday evening. The driver of the truck fled from the spot. The Dasuya police has registered a case under Sections 279, 304-A and 427 of the IPC against the truck driver.

7 booked in bigamy case

Amritsar, November 26
The Chheharta police has registered a case of bigamy against seven members of a family, including four women.

The complainant, Navnit Kaur, a resident of San Sahib Road, Chheharta said she was married to one David Masih of Pathankot. At the time of marriage, the boy’s family had claimed that David was a bachelor. But after marriage, it was found that he was already married to a girl at Pathankot.

Apart from David Masih, others who were booked include his mother Raj Rani, brother Prem Pal, sister Teji, Jeenat Rozy, Arjun Singh and his wife Balwinder Kaur of Naraingarh area (Chheharta), who are the mediator of the marriage. The seven have been booked under Sections 494, 498-A and 120-B of the IPC.

School inks pact with US varsity

Pathankot, November 26
Dalhousie Public School, Badhani, has set up a collaboration with Western Illinois University, USA, under which students of the school will travel to the US for educational and cultural events.

Likewise, students and staff of the Western Illinois University can travel to Badhani for “upgrading their knowledge and improve their perspective towards India and Indians.”— TNS
