Jalandhar, November 24
The joy of 32-year-old Naresh Rani, a Dalit woman, knew no bounds as she was able to enter her in-laws home after long struggle. Losing no hope and faith in herself and in the law, she pledged to fight a legal battle and finally came out victorious. After she won the legal battle, the Jalandhar Rural police ensured her entry into her in-laws house.

Her in-laws made stiff resistance, but the police finally ensured safe entry of the woman in her in-laws house. Naresh Rani was thrown out of the house illegally four years ago.

After her marriage with Italy-based NRI Hussan Lal in 2004, he went to Italy a few months after the wedding and left her in the lurch at his parent’s house. The victim alleged that her husband never returned and she was being tortured by her in-laws.

She was later thrown out of the house by her brother-in-law, who was allegedly trying to grab the property.

Naresh Rani then knocked at the door of the local panchayat and police and finally moved the court under the Protection of Woman from Domestic Violence Act. Despite the court orders, she was not accepted by her in-laws.

Finally, Judicial Magistrate Pushpinder Singh asked the SHO, Lambra, to ensure her entry into the house and her in-laws were directed to give her ‘istri dhan’.
