71-year-old woman murdered
Dehradun, September 13 Her legs and hands were found tied with the sari she was wearing while the wire of a cellphone charger was tied around her neck. The police said prima facie, it appeared that she had been strangled. The house had been ransacked and cash and jewellery was also reportedly missing. However, the police added that a clear picture could come only after a post-mortem examination. A case under Sections 394 and 302 of the IPC has been registered at the Kotwali police station. The incident came to light at 9.45 am when her maid saw Kailash’s body lying on the floor and the house ransacked. She informed the neighbours about the incident, who reported the matter to the police. After investigating the room where she was found murdered, the police sealed the place of the crime. “A dog squad and a team of Forensic Science Laboratory are examining the spot. We will soon achieve some success,” said SSP Gopal Nath Goswami. Talking to mediapersons, the SSP said it was yet to be found whether something had been stolen from the house. The victim’s cellphone had also been found damaged. The police said it was being assumed that the assailants were known to the deceased and had called her up to gain entry into the house. Later, they also damaged her cellphone. It is also working on the angle of a property dispute. Meanwhile, the victim’s daughter, Baby, failed to bear the loss of her mother and died of heart attack after hearing the news on the phone. She was married and had been living at Taraori in Haryana. The victim’s second daughter, Anamika Saxena lives in Race Course and is a teacher in Balika Shiksha Sadan. He husband, the late Suresh Bhatnagar, was a professor of DAV PG College. As both of her daughters were married, she used to live alone in the house. |
Question mark over police functioning
Dehradun, September 13 According to her neighbours and kin, theft attempts had been made at the victim’s house earlier also, but miscreants could not achieve any success. “Everyone took the matter lightly as we had never thought that it can take such an ugly turn. We had informed the police about this once,” one of her neighbours told TNS. Harish Kukreja, a BJP mandal mantri, said: “We had heard someone knocking at her door two three times at night in the past, but when we got up and checked nobody was there. This shows that someone was trying to enter her house at night for wrong reasons.” The incident has put a question mark over the functioning of the police with regard to the security of senior citizens. In February, an elderly couple, who was in their 70s, was murdered allegedly by their servant in Dalanwala. Inspector, Kotwali police station, AS Rawat said meetings were being held regularly to listen to the problems being faced by senior citizens. |
