Local bodies’ staff strike work
Dehradun, September 5 While putting across their main demands before mediapersons, Nam Bahadur, president of the NKSM, said it was high time that the state government absorbed daily wagers against the vacancies created by the retired employees in the local bodies. He demanded equal treatment as was given to the class IV employees of the departments under the state government, saying, “Just like class IV state employees, the employees of the local bodies should also be given Rs 1,800 grade salary. The gratuity given to the employees of the local bodies should also be increased from Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 5,00,000. The pension amount should be increased from Rs 1,000 to 6,000 per month. There should be a strength of five sanitation worker against a population of 1,000. In this way, a miniscule strength of 650 sanitation workers working in the DMC is far less for Dehradun which has a population of 8 lakh.” Bahadur also expressed ire against Principal Secretary, Urban Development, Dr Ranvir Singh, for not fulfilling his promises. He said, “Ranvir Singh had promised us at a meeting on August 12 to issue government orders on three or four demands of ours within a week or 10 days, but till date he did not issue orders even on one demand. It is quite disheartening. Rift between GMVN staff leaders deepens
Dehradun, September 5 Expressing his dissent, Puri said: “I was neither informed nor consulted before the separation of the KMVN from the front and the new elections. No such circular was issued and even many members elected were kept in the dark about their appointments. Therefore, this new organisation is null and void”. R Gildiyal, who was appointed office secretary, said: “Earlier, I worked as the general secretary under Puri. In the new elections, I was made the office secretary, without taking me in confidence”. Kothari said it was only Puri and Gildiyal who were protesting while the rest were satisfied. He said: “It is Puri who is deliberately creating a fuss, as he is feeling insecure after losing his position. We are yet to inform the members about the whole affair through a circular,” he added. “As a member of CITU, he was busier in party politics than the GMVN issues. The employees were also unhappy with him for not deliberately solving the regularisation issue. He wanted to keep his importance intact in the union by keeping this issue alive. Since he has been dismissed from the GMVN long ago, he would often ask us for money for his personal expenses. Above all, he forcibly imposed the KMVN on us. The KMVN staff had never actively participated in our protests”. Puri also attacked Kothari on the regularisation issue saying that the latter became the president of the association only to keep the issue of regularisation of the contractual and daily wage earners pending. “If all the employees are regularised, then the managers of the GMVN guest houses will have to pay higher salaries to the employees working under them. It means an additional burden on them, because the managers are supposed to meet their expenses/salaries from the income of their guest houses,” he said. Puri gave indications that he was ready to wait till December when the next elections of the organisation will take place and Kothari will also retire in the same month. |
