Two head wardens of jail suspended
Dehradun, August 31 An FIR has also been registered against them under Section 223, 224 of the Indian Penal Code at the Sahaspur police station. A magisterial probe has already been ordered into the whole matter. “We suspended the two head wardens as the prisoners who fled were under their custody. Prima facie their negligence have come to light into the matter. An FIR has been lodged and whosever found guilty will be penalised,” Bhaskaranand, Inspector General of Prisons said. The two wardens have been identified as Ramavtar Satyarathi and Madan Lal. Meanwhile, Jail Minister Rajender Bhandari inspected the jail today and accepted the negligence of the jail officials in the case. The dreaded prisoners, Ravi Bengali and Salim, said to have fled by jumping the 22-foot-long boundary wall of the prison. However, the police is not able digest it. The jail authorities informed the administration and the police after four hours of the incident. State DGP Jyoti Swaroop Pandey expressed surprise when he got to know through the media that the prisoners had fled. SSP Gopal Nath Goswami said had the police been informed on time about the incident, they could have caught the fleeing prisoners. Though after the district police was informed about the matter, it did thorough combing in the area to nab the prisoners but in vain. After getting the surprising news, SP (Rural) GC Dhyani and Sahaspur CO reached the spot with the police force yesterday. CCTV cameras in the jail are also said to be out of order and it is being seen as a major security loophole. On this the IG (Prisons) said, “The cameras have nothing to do with the fleeing of the prisoners. It was sheer foolishness or may be negligence on the part of the head wardens that the two escaped.” However, the IG said the CCTV cameras inside barracks were properly working but he was not sure about the status of other cameras on the jail premises. The IG said the report of the probe, which had been handed over to the SDM, was expected to come this evening or early morning following which strict action would be initiated. “For now, only the involvement of the wardens has come to light. But whosoever will be indicted in the police inquiry and the SDM probe, he will be taken to task,” Bhaskaranand added. |

He said such an act of the Chief Minister only belittled the respect of the post. The Opposition leader reminded that he himself had participated in the state agitation but never got himself registered as state agitationist.
