Land Compensation
Greater Noida, June 9 The Surajpur police, which had closed the file by appending the final report, has been ordered to reopen the case against the accused. According to prosecution, Bhupender Nagar, a farmer of the Dadupur village was the owner of land under Gatta Nos 424 and 427 in village Murishadapur in Sadar Tehsil. It is alleged that Bhupender Nagar was deprived of the payment of his land compensation by tehsil officials and the ADMs (land acquisition). The case went on in the court for a pretty long time. The accused officials had even gone into appeals against the lower court decision. When the compensation was allowed later, an account was opened in Mahamaya bank in Bhupender's name in which the compensation amount was duly deposited. Later ADMs, in complicity with the bank owner and officials, are alleged to have withdrawn the amount and divided it among themselves. The victim alleged that the investigation in the case was prolonged to save the accused. Bhupender Nagar had then approached the high court with a writ petition in 2010 with a plea to expedite the investigation. The high court ordered on January 4, 2011 that the case should be resolved quickly. The investigating officer of Surajpur police station Ishwer Dutt Sharma then hurriedly filed the final report in which the facts of the case had allegedly been concealed. Bhupender Nagar's advocate Lalit Mohan lodged a complaint with the District Magistrate about this fraud. The DM ordered the SHO Surajpur police station to take action. The SHO Surjapur has now booked previous ADMs (Land) Yoginder Yadav, Ajay Deep Singh, Manvender Singh and Shishir Kumar along with revenue officer Sanjay and owner and branch manager of Mahamaya Bank, Raj Singh and Onkar Singh respectively. |

BJP kicks off ‘fight against corruption’
New Delhi, June 9 At a meeting held today, Delhi unit chief of the BJP Vijender Gupta said the Congress in Delhi and the UPA at the Centre had completely failed in controlling the corruption. Now the country depended on the judiciary, media, civil society and the vigilant opposition parties. The government is gradually trying to suppress the voice of the civil society and the Opposition in unconstitutional way. The government is so much afraid of the BJP and the common man that it has enforced Section 144 in Delhi so that the people may not be able to express their voice in a collective way, he added. Commenting on the statement of home minister P Chidambaram that Parliament and public representatives have the right to discuss national problems, the place of debate should be Parliament, not the streets, Gupta said the citizens had the fundamental rights to assemble any where to demonstrate, express their feelings in a peaceful way under Article 19 (1) b of the Indian Constitution. The home minister's statement was irresponsible. As far as the Congress in Delhi is concerned, it is exploiting money from every department. The PWD, food and supply, revenue, energy, Delhi jal board, urban development, health, education, social welfare departments are completely involved in corruption. It has committed bungling of Rs 70, 000 crore in the Commonwealth Games. A new bungling of the DJB has also come to light which is of more than Rs 268 crore. |
Hussain’s wish to return to motherland
remains unfulfilled
New Delhi, June 9 Hussain without doubt is a household name in India in the world of art. Not only are his paintings valued to be art treasures, but his name arouses extreme reactions from within the Indian society. While Hussain is adored by art fans across urban India, extreme elements in Indian society have been fanning the flame of hatred against the artist. Hussain left the country after facing death threats and court cases from RSS and Hindu right wing. He first came into controversy after his nude portrayal of Indian goddesses in 1996. Death threats by Hindu fanatics resulted, as did legal petitions by the BJP and RSS and vandalism of Hussain's exhibitions. Hussain shifted to Qatar where he was offered citizenship in 2010. He also has a residence in London. However, the artist's desire to return to his motherland could not be fulfilled. He won the prestigious Padma Shree, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. Hussain's 'Battle of Ganga and Jamuna: Mahabharata 12,' fetched USD 1.6 million in 2008, setting a world record at Christie's South Asian modern and contemporary art sale. Alka Raghuvanshi, artist, curator from Indian Habitat Centre, said, "It is unbelievable to read that Hussain sahib has passed away. He was one of the most interesting persons that I have ever met. In spite of his grey hair, he was very young at heart and mind. Single-handedly, he introduced India on the world map through his art . He knew his work very well and was very focused. Even when he entered Bollywood, he knew how to sell things and get commercial success." Ranjita Chaney, Delhi-based gallery curator, said, "Hussain sahib's death is a big loss to our country and history. He is the face of modern art which will always be read and studied and remembered. As a young curator, I feel really sad that I and many more like me could not see or be with him and learn the wealth of art. Hussain has been a leading light for the people connected with art and I especially feel sad that despite the artist's strong wish to live out his last days in India, he could not do so. He enriched art not only in India, but internationally, his contribution, his originality and the sheer depth of his vision was immense." Shabana Azmi, the actress who was a close friend of Hussain's, writes in Twitter, "I am mourning the loss of a painter, a wonderful human being and very dear friend. He will remain immortal for me. It is a huge loss for the nation and family as people like M F Hussain are born only once." Bollywood megastar, Amitabh Bachchan, condoles Hussain's death on Twitter, "MF Hussain, artist, painter, friend ... passes away! Sad, very sad! Many of his works and gifts adorn my home. Hussain's best gift to me was a Hanuman painting with sanjeevani booti where he is shown flying. It was given to me in Breach Candy Hospital, during the Coolie episode. |

Drives against sexual abuse
New Delhi, June 9 Both programmes, the first one for giving a voice to the hapless women and the other to enable the children to voice out their, launched today during an event organised by Plan India and Dr AV Baliga Memorial Trust at India Habitat Centre. On the occasion, minister of state for of social welfare women and child development Kiran Walia exhorted people to come forward and lend support to all such children who were left to battle for a secured and respectable living. While expressing concern about the rising problem of sexual harassment of children, Walia said, "Child sexual abuse is rampant and hence the government has taken this step to sweep it under the carpet. Problem is even the attitude of the parents who usually cover up the issue and put the blame on the child rather than confront the offender. It is highly condemnable if we do so." The government is formulating a number of schemes and programmes for the welfare of the children and the Delhi Child Protection Commission will soon come out with some. It is important to break their calm as they are supposed to have been under trauma and the campaign would enable them in coping up with it, she added. |
No takers for NAREGA in Noida
Greater Noida, June 9 Under the scheme, over 26,000 job cards were made in Gautam Budh Nagar. Further, bank accounts for 6,367 people and post office accounts for 46 people were opened for this scheme. But only 2,210 people were able to take advantage of the scheme, says project director RP Yadav. Just 0.27 per cent of the Rs 13.670 lakh assigned for the scheme was spent in Bisarakh during 2010-11. In Dankore, only 3.08 per cent of the fund was utilised, adds Yadav. What is more significant is the fact that the public works department here could not spend even a single paise of the total allocation of Rs 3 lakh made under the scheme and the amount had to be returned to the government as such. According to Garima Khere, block development officer, Bisarakh, not a single application has been received for jobs under the rural employment guarantee scheme for 2011-2012. "Why should we apply for jobs under the government scheme when we are paid much more by private builders" says Ramu, a labourer. In Noida, a labourer can get up to Rs 250 per day at a private construction site. |
